Agreed 100%. A game changing kicker is worth their weight in gold. The past 5 years our kicking issues have come up time and time again.CanuckAggie wrote:Maybe I'm way off here, but until we have a guy who can consistently make field goals from a reasonable range and keep kickoffs in bounds, I think addressing the kicking position is somewhat of a priority and worthy of a scholarship. I don't want to slam local kids, but I think from the body of work the past few years we are kidding ourselves to think we have a decent D1 kicker on the roster. I'm kind of sick of losing games because of momentum shifts on gimme special teams plays.

Also agree. The kicking game (mostly the PK game) has not been stellar and has been the direct cause of several losses but we have seen that this staff doesn't place a high priority on it for some reason no matter the results. It sucks to see so many other schools that have these weapons at their disposal and have full confidence that they can score points from range and we are stuck year after year playing musical chairs with our place kickers.CanuckAggie wrote:Maybe I'm way off here, but until we have a guy who can consistently make field goals from a reasonable range and keep kickoffs in bounds, I think addressing the kicking position is somewhat of a priority and worthy of a scholarship. If I remember right, someone asked why there were no kickers on the commit list at the donor event last night and MW just looked perplexed and said "because we didn't offer any". He then went on to say the usual line about how they'll bring some guys in and have a competition in the off-season and was sure to add that our current kickers are capable as well.

How is it that USU's all time leading scorer Brad Bohn is "the premier kicking coach on the west coast" at his West Coast Kicking Academy, and we do not have a pipeline of great kickers and punters?Aglicious wrote:Also agree. He sent us Nick Diaz.ChicAggie wrote:How is it that USU's all time leading scorer Brad Bohn is "the premier kicking coach on the west coast" at his West Coast Kicking Academy, and we do not have a pipeline of great kickers and punters?Aglicious wrote:Also agree. Re: National Signing Day Tracker
Brad has been on the forums before and has said he's offered his services and has tried to point some kickers in our direction. That is how we ended up with Nick Diaz actually. Diaz is a member of the West Coast Kicking Hall of Fame.ChicAggie wrote:How is it that USU's all time leading scorer Brad Bohn is "the premier kicking coach on the west coast" at his West Coast Kicking Academy, and we do not have a pipeline of great kickers and punters?Aglicious wrote:Also agree. I agree though, it is sort of weird that we have struggled so much with such a good resource.
EDIT: Doh! aggies22 beat me to it. Took too long to hit "post".

Re: National Signing Day Tracker
One kicker does not a pipeline make. I feel like we are underutilizing Brad as a resource.
