Huh? I'm not sure I understand why one should know they are having a rough day if the official says the ball was muffed. While I understand that the term has multiple connotations and can be somewhat amusing, "muff" is a term of art in football that is used in the rule book, so it would be perfectly appropriate for an official to use it.

Some of us are in the gutter. My flag football team at USU used the words 'no muff too tuff'. Urban dictionary may need to be referenced.

Had no idea it was a term in the rule book. I’ve only ever heard it used for screwing something up. Thus when I heard the official use it, I interpreted it to mean that he was saying the receiver really messed up. Just thought it was funny at that point in the game when absolutely everything was going wrong for SJSU.
