Jim Mora Jr was just fired

Post by SLB » November 19th, 2017, 12:35 pm

UCLA had a rough season, but UCLA did pretty well with Mora Jr. over the 6 seasons going 46-30.
Mora Jr. at one time head coach in the NFL that went to one NFC championship game with Falcons and overall went 31-33 with two teams that fired him.
Mora Jr. getting fired was a little surprising.

UCLA underachieved this year, and Rosen was never the qb that they thought he would turn into. Mora wasn't bad, I think, but the view from PAC-12 Land is that UCLA hasn't played up to their level lately. I'm not hugely surprised, though I'm not sure they'll find anyone better.

If only UState had fired Wells two weeks ago, we could have had Kelly as our coach by now!

What happens with Wells if we lose tonight and and we don’t get a bowl bid?

Then we move on to recruiting and Spring ball?

If you think Wells would get fired then you're dead wrong.

I don’t think he will. There have been many on here that said he was given the ultimatum. Get to a bowl game or your gone. Not feeling very confident after the first half.

Wells is in hot water right now with no wins against teams going in bowl game since early 2016.

I'm guessing that the ultimatum was to become bowl eligible.

Hot water huh? I'd say he felt the pressure and responded well. He has beat the teams on the schedule in front of him.

Doubling the win total from a year ago takes him out of the hot water.

It looks like the next head coach for Arizona State is Herm Edwards. This came out of left field.

The dominoes are starting to tumble in the coaching world. There are so many coaching positions opening up at historically good programs there's no telling how far the effects will be felt. I wonder if Wells doesn't find another job after showing some improvement this year? Not at a top position but maybe replacing a guy that gets a top position. I hear rumors that Tennessee is looking at the Purdue coach now (somebody's gotta take over that dumpster fire). Also, Jimbo Fisher is all but a done deal at Texas A&M. FSU has already started looking to replace Jimbo and rumors are swirling around Oregon coach Willie Taggart. Who knows where Wells will be when the dust settles?

Wells will be in Logan Utah when all the dust settles. That is not too difficult to predict

PAC 12 newly hired coaches
UCLA Chip Kelly
Oregon State Jonathan Smith
ASU Herm Edwards (pending approval of the president of ASU)
PAC 12 firings
UCLA Jim Mora Jr
Oregon State Gary Andersen
ASU Todd Graham
Former MWC/PAC 12 coaches that got fired
Florida Jim McElwain
Nebraska Mike Riley
I may have missed some here. My question is out of this pool of fired coaches which one do you think is the best head coach?

Riley, he was able to win at Oregon State, though I think he may have passed his peak.

McElwain is weird. He may have been shown the door prematurely based on his odd demeanor. Oh, and he is just an average coach.

Dont know much about the other guy.

Wesern P5 schools have basicaly made their moves on coaches at this moment, but there are eastern schools that could shake up the western schools in the near future.

Jim Mora Jr was just fired

Post by Jjoey52 » December 5th, 2017, 6:57 pm

Oregon is probably very angry about this. One and done for coaches really sucks. Got a question for the lawyers here, when the school fires coach, unless they have cause, the school is obligated to pay the remainder of the contract. Why can the coaches bail out on a commitment in writing they made? Is there any language, other than a massive buyout, to compel coaches to not seek other jobs?

The buyouts are absurd for coaches who get fired. I get their being a penalty for firing a coach before their contract is up, but to pay a coach his entire contract like so many are forced to do is ridiculous. It doesn't seem to even be an incentive for big schools to keep coaches.
