CSU game
Our home game against CSU will be the first CSU game where 3 CSU bench players and JUCO transfers will not be eligible to play. Who knows if they ultimately are ruled ineligible, but that's the current ruling. This is another black mark for LE. How many of his nine lives has that cat used up?

These players are not big contributers, but they are bodies who give the starters a blow. USU's record would not be much worse if Barnaba, Taylor and Pearre were ruled ineligible --- but they do allow the starters to not each play 38 minutes per game.

Re: CSU game
I'm failing to see what exactly LE did wrong. These players have been suspended due to being declared academically ineligible. He didn't try to hide this, nor did he try to cover it up. You can question his judgment to recruit a large amount of transfers and JC recruits rather than develop players over a four-year period, but I don't think he did anything wrong, unless I'm missing something. LE's rosters at USU were composed primarily of JC recruits, so this is a practice he's implemented for over two decades.utaggies wrote:Our home game against CSU will be the first CSU game where 3 CSU bench players and JUCO transfers will not be eligible to play. I recall UNLV's Rice depending on bringing in transfers that were talented but questionable character, resulting in the lack of continuity as a lot of them would then transfer(again), declare for the draft, or get kicked off the team. The rebuilding process seemed to occur on an annual basis and just didn't seem to be a prudent method of sustaining success for the program.

Re: CSU game
Actually, this is a huge deal. Larry was already complaining before the season started that he didn't have enough players and he was hoping they could avoid injury. Then his best player was suspended because of a domestic violence issue. He is back, but these three players are gone and they all played significant minutes. Che Bob is the biggest loss. It is not unusual for him to put up 15-20 points a game, I believe he was averaging about 10. Another one them was, Butler, was starting to come into is own and his minutes and points were way up the last 6-7 games, he was basically a starter.

I agree that this is will have an impact on this year's team, but again, I don't think LE did anything wrong, from his position as the head coach, in the handling of this issue.bpd wrote:Actually, this is a huge deal. Re: CSU game
LE didn't do anything "wrong" in terms of NCAA violations, he did plenty "wrong" by not recruiting players who would actually be eligible to play. And/or he or his staff presumably didn't hold the hands of the players enought to make sure they toed the line academically. Unless the NCAA's ruling is overturned, LE's going to be dressing only 7 scholarship players and an additional number of walk-ons and football players. This predicament is all on the coach. He gambled on high risk/high reward JUCO transfers and he crapped out. No es bueno.AGGZILLA wrote:I agree that this is will have an impact on this year's team, but again, I don't think LE did anything wrong, from his position as the head coach, in the handling of this issue.bpd wrote:Actually, this is a huge deal. CSU game
Maybe LE should be sanctioned by the NCAA for recruiting fluffers.utaggies wrote:Our home game against CSU will be the first CSU game where 3 CSU bench players and JUCO transfers will not be eligible to play. Re: CSU game
I believe this could have some serious title IX implications. If LE has used scholarships to bring in some fluffers then CSU better match those scholies with some porn ladies somewhere....WAaggieFan wrote:Maybe LE should be sanctioned by the NCAA for recruiting fluffers.utaggies wrote:Our home game against CSU will be the first CSU game where 3 CSU bench players and JUCO transfers will not be eligible to play. Re: CSU game
Looks like the three guys didn't play today. UNM won pretty handily. I'm guessing that is more of a bad sign for CSU than a good sign for UNM. LE played 7 players today. That lack of depth will be very hard to overcome over the remainder of the season.
Re: CSU game
The NM at CSU game was probably the craziest game in the MW this year. Almost a fight during the game after NM player laid a pick on a CSU player, then taunted CSU after the CSU player was on the ground injured. Lots of words exchanged between players and coaches, a lot crazy things said by both sides including some assistant coaches.... and almost a fight after the game in the parking lot. Neal may have one the game, which was huge for him, but not a good look.
