Re: USU up to 35 on Net Ratings after SJSU win

We moved up three spots over idle teams because we beat lowly SJSU? I know I've said it before, but I'm still not buying the NET's supposed cap on margin of victory at 10. Take, for example, when St. Mary's beat Arizona State by 40. They moved up from #64 to #36. I know it was only 12 games into th...

Re: Queta Post Touches

Didn’t seem to me that the offense “let Miller shoot” so much as Miller was the only guy willing to take shots. Miller has a tendency to force bad shots but he was good tonight. His only glaringly bad shot was because he thought the shot clock was expiring. The wide open corner three he missed was ...

Re: So now they've stolen Winning Team Losing Team?

This is a USU-specific troll right? In, I think, 2013, I attended a La Tech/USU game that La Tech won by 20 or so.

Their 8-person student section did “winning team losing team.” I figured this happens with other teams in the the conference, but maybe not?

Re: Regressing to the mean

Personally, I think the apparent chemistry issues are basketball-fit related. Bean is a better player than Taylor in a vacuum, but Taylor was a better fit with Queta. When two of your three best players are bigs that don’t shoot, you’re going to have to do some line-up gymnastics. Here’s hoping Smit...

Bean is 6'7" 210 and Yolie is 6'8" 225 Its not that much of a difference. I believe you will see tomorrow night that it is actually quite a significant difference. Not only that but it's more about the 4-5" of wingspan difference than the 1" of height difference. I have no idea what Bean's wingspan...

Re: My favorite wins in Utah State history.

Not the most exciting game or high profile opponent, but a personal favorite that hasn't been mentioned is the 2009 WAC championship. The Aggies lost by double digits to Nevada two weeks prior and had generally struggled down the stretch after a long winning streak. They came out and blitzed a good ...

Re: Without question, if queta doesn’t start playing this week

March is what matters. And these upcoming games will be the most important of the regular season in terms of assuring the team plays well into March. 0-3 against UF/SMC/LSU leaves the Aggies with little-to-no breathing room.It also means last year's team will have had two better wins (UNR, SMC) tha...

How does an opposing team defend or attack this potential lineup?
(using the traditional 1-5 position tags)

1- Bairstow 6'8
2- Merrill 6'5
3- Bean 6'7
4- Queta 7'0
5- Karwowski 7'2
It would be very hard to score against this line-up. It would be even harder for this line-up to score.

Re: 68th in kenpom rankings

Kenpom's preseason rankings are indeed nebulous, but they are not arbitrary. Nor do they include any polls. It's all math that's way above my head, but it's all math based on prior seasons. I believe he uses recruiting rankings, similarity scores and that sort of thing to evaluate the newcomers. The...

Re: 68th in kenpom rankings

If it was based upon last season Nevada would be higher..I think he is just guessing. It's based on previous years, but does factor in departures & newcomers. Say what you want about Kenpom, but he doesn't guess. The formula adjusts quickly, though. USU jumped from ~150 to ~50 in just a couple game...

His reasoning was that we were one of the "surprise" teams last year. Often times, surprise teams are a flash in the pan and then they regress to the mean. That's all that was taken into account. The fact that many other "surprise" teams in the past have regressed back down to their usual place. Wh...

I don’t at all fault Queta for leaving and hope he goes first round, but I would be very surprised if Queta ended up as good as Capela. USU should be a lock, but I fear they need to win the quarterfinal game. That will be their last chance for a really bad loss. Avoid that and they all but officially lock it up. If anything, I would say lingering respect from Stew's peak is helping the Aggies' national perception. Maybe SDSU or UNLV would get more love nationally with USU's current resume, but I doubt anyone else in the MW would.

Miller definitely forces up one or two bad shots a game, but the spacing he provides is invaluable even when he's having an off night. This team is light on offensive weapons so he is probably carrying a little too much of a burden, but I'd chalk up the bad nights to variance. We'll see a 7/10 night...

Unless he started shooting at his own basket, Koby would help this team tremendously--whether he bought in or not. Ainge & Porter work hard, but they aren't MW talents. Knight is not ready. If Koby did "buy in," this team could be devastating. Still lacking depth, but McEwen-Merrill-Queta would be o...
