Re: Rocky Long is the new Defensive Coordinator at...

My bet is that Rocky went where he wanted to go and this is it. Probably moving back to coach and retire where he wants to live. Kind of a weird place to want to live, but then again, people say the same thing about Cache Valley I like Albuquerque. Mountains, desert, great food, temperatures that a...

If we have shooting percentages like we did vs CSU, I like our chances (but I doubt we will - SDSU plays better D than CSU)

Alyssa Altobelli, her father John Altobelli, her mother Keri Altobelli also died.
Christina Mauser too.
Payton Chester and his mom Sarah Chester.
And Ara Zobayan

I'm hearing "and seven others" way too much... it seems like a terribly dismissive way of acknowledging them.

No. New Mexico has gambled and lost big time on JuCo transfers over the last few years. The cupboard is pretty bare there.
Oh, I didn't mean to say next season.

I like the hires they've made. We'll find them to be much improved in a couple of years.

Good to know. I don't fault our coaches then. They can't stop a kid from visiting his favorite school. They have no obligation to give him a scholarship.

Re: Recruiting

I think the number one reason for not having a scholarship for Jake would likely be how many schollies are currently committed to OL. When you look at our depth chart, we bring back at least ten guys for the next two years. I don't think we should put words in the coaches' mouths at this point and ...

On a side note, how did we not get a visit from Jake griffin where his dad played here but he visits BYU. Dad should have done better teaching him. byu kids will always pray for the byu offer. I’m sure he’s giving some USC fans “pause” that he was just fired. I don’t think that’s abnormal or odd. When a guy gets fired, it means it’s a red flag. Maybe a really small red flag, but a red flag nonetheless.
Agreed.
Is the red flag on the one who's fired, or the one who did the firing?

As for CSU, I doubt we lose at home to anyone else. On the road? I have no confidence that we can beat anyone.

I am excited about Mcgriff, but one thing that gives me pause is he left Nebraska because they switched him to a LB because they felt like he wasn’t going to play as a WR. I would disagree we arent in play for an at-large bid. Currently 15-5 with 2 big time wins. I imagine if we push that to 17-5 after next week we will be back in consideration and one of the last four out bubble teams.
And if we lose to Boise?

I think you jinxed us

I'm not sure we can fairly evaluate next year's LBs from what we saw on the field this year. I have hopes for Simon Thompson if he's put on some good muscle after a year in the program, we'll have a couple of newcomers, and I wonder if Daniel Langi (was a great HS LB), or Justus Te'i will move from ...

Re: Depth Chart conjecture with shifting back to 3-4 base defense

I did a quick compare of the 2018 roster to the 2019 roster. Here's what I found: We had 10 LBs in 2018 who returned in 2019 - HALF of them moved to DE in 2019 We had 8 DEs in 2018 who returned in 2019 - HALF of them moved to DT, one to TE So we had half of our returning LBs and DEs moved UP to a p...

The D.line that return were pushed around a lot last season, in the beloved 3 man front you need tough people that can hold gaps those returning will need to improve a lot, With that front you need real good linebackers, on that list I do not see that, maybe they can get faster, stronger and tackle...

Our old D system always had one player that was a hybrid between an OLB and a DE (Bojay, Kyler) and one player that was a hybrid between a LB and a SS (Mo Alexander).

Maybe Nick will be our new Bojay.

Utilizing the run equally with the pass is passe. The offenses that score the most points are spread/west-coast/Air Coryell style offenses, not old-timey 3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust offenses. Offenses that move the ball most effectively get their best athletes in open space in on-on-one situations ...
