Re: New basketball venue for usu
I kinda like that built into the old stadium. The Braves old new baseball stadium (Turner Field) turned the old old stadium grounds (Fulton County Stadium) into the parking lot and they left the back wall up. Was kinda a cool feature. Now of course they moved to the burbs and GA State turned Turner ...

Re: Who has taken voluntary pay cuts within our Athletic Department?
The logistics of folks asking to have their pay cut would be an HR, Legal, and Payroll pain in the butt. I imagine the AD in partnership with university HR and overall leadership are in the process of reviewing some of that stuff. I'm not going to say what the right or wrong move is, but I don't thi...

Re: TheAthletic.com's plan to save non-conference basketball
My understanding is that with most schools going to online only after Thanksgiving, this plan would account for that by starting after Thanksgiving and ensuring off-days for schoolwork. Perhaps thinking ideally, but a good start. I don't have an Athletics account, so I cannot read the article. What...

Re: TheAthletic.com's plan to save non-conference basketball
1. How does this system figure into the kids getting schoolwork and classroom instruction time? 2. Does Utah need seven D-1 schools? What happened to the community colleges and trade schools? 1. While I understand the idea of a bubble, I agree that it takes away from schoolwork and instruction time...

Re: Piecing Together a Virtual Season
This is a really cool idea and a way to get some sense of normalcy through the fall. I might actually try to do this. Don't have an answer yet, but I will start thinking about it and come back.

TheAthletic.com's plan to save non-conference basketball
Probably behind a paywall, but the gist of it is dividing D-1 basketball into 7 regions, 44 pods, with games played in a round robin format, trying to limit in-conference games (harder in the west) from after Thanksgiving through the start of the 2nd semester. Utah State would be in the West Region,...

This is coming right at the time we have agreed to financially compensate college athletes for use of their likenesses and sale of their uniforms. If revenue from collegiate sports drops, Is that still going to happen? Not directly from the university... compensation for their likeness I believe wo...

It the Pac12 follows suite, Notre Dame loses Wisconsin, Stanford, and USC, and BYU loses Michigan State, Minnesota, Utah, Arizona, and Stanford. I really think it's all gonna end up moving to the spring. Notre Dame loses Wisconsin, but Wisconsin is also losing Notre Dame too. Losing Ohio State at Or...

The Ivy League just announced they're cancelling all fall sports for 2020 and won't consider playing anything until at least January 1, 2021.

Honestly I wish we’d do something with our court like UNLV did or the MW Tournament Court. To make it unique. Images having something like the outline of old main or the block A. Or a even a mountain range would look awesome. I like that our court is clean and kinda fits in with big time programs. ...

I imagine the dominos will start to fall. The real question is when will fans be back? The second real question is what happens when players start testing positive? The NBA made a switch to a different material in 2006 that didn't seem to affect the game or scoring, but the players hated it cause it was causing super dry and cracked hands, so the union pushed back and won. https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/wnmz79/the-nba-ball-that-everyone-hated-throwback-thur...

I wanted Ohio State, and I am convinced that the fumble-score should have been confirmed and am not at all convinced that the targeting call was correct. However, they also tried their damnedest not to win when they settled for field goals instead of TDs. 3 FGs inside the redzone is not going to cut...

Not passionately cheering for Utah, but I'd prefer them over Georgia or OU/Baylor, mostly because I think they'd be the easier opponent for my 2nd school. Also, I don't like the idea of two from one conference getting in. Neither the Big10 or Pac12 have been in the past two playoffs, and the Big12 (...

That is fine, If I were a student, I wouldn't want my hard earned money going to non-amateur athletes. Let the boosters and businesses pay for their "college". As a taxpayer, I don't want to pay into a system like this any more. College should be about school. This is exactly correct . What percent...

For someone as good at their job as Craig Smith, it's not about the money. It's about the challenge and opportunity. $275k I'm sure went really far in Vermillion, SD.
