Re: Phil Krueger died

The Aggies beat Boise State in Boise during Phi's last year (The first ever meeting). It was an interesting game in that the BSU coach was Tony Knap who had left USU under controversial circumstances a few years earlier. To his credit, Tony came to the USU locker room after the game to offer congrat...

Re: Jay Don Blake

I've heard some speculate that he never really recovered psychologically from losing the NCAA as a Sr - he led for most of the tournament- and this carried over to his pro-career making him rather a journeyman on the tour. He was/is a big BYU fan and supports/ed their golf team with $$, I understand.

Re: Opener against Wazzou

I should add that the 1961 game came about because Denver gave up FB and USU and WSU had games scheduled with Denver in 1961. The last game Denver won, ever, in 1960 was a big upset win over WSU in Denver. 1961 was to be the return game in Spokane. I was a Sr. at WSU when the game was announced and ...

Re: Opener against Wazzou

Just looked at the film from the 1961 game which was in Spokane, not Pullman. My fiancee, her brother and his wife drove all night Logan to Spokane to see the game and all the way back to Logan the next day. Aggie line was the heaviest in the country, including all pro teams. They wore WSU down in t...

Re: Opener against Wazzou

From the USU point of view, it's too bad that Leach isn't the WSU coach. His WSU teams were often woefully unprepared for their first games, losing to a pretty good Eastern Washington team a couple of times but also to Portland State. I don't think the new coach will overlook USU but his players mig...

The WSU AD is saying there may be games without fans. Is that why the Cougs are opening at USU? (Joke).

The Memphis State game was not an Aggie idea. Memphis refused to play in a stadium of less than 25,000 seats. this was a year before new Romney was operational and old Romney was only 15,000.

Re: Most dissapointing team ever

To coin a phrase, nothing is new under the sun! The 1959-60 Aggie team won 3rd place in the NIT - a big deal then - and finished ranked in the top ten in both polls. The next year the team returned 4 starters and added a prize recruit - Haney. Expectations were sky-high! We beat a NY team - forget w...

Re: Best player in the history of Utah is an Aggie!

It's a small world. About 30 years ago or so I was judging the Montana State Junior Miss program in Butte, (The old Butte High school is a wonder with the halls filled with photos of football teams of the early 1900's - bearded brawny lads - they had to close the mines on game day.) One of my fellow...

Re: Why can't we dribble/drive strong...?

I learned in the 7th grade that you usually can't dribble against a zone defense. You should pass the ball quickly on the outside, over load the zone, look for the open shot and a pass to the high post all of which we didn't do very well or very consistently.

"RayQuan Evans and Alphonso Anderson scored 32 points a piece and North Idaho overpowered Walla Walla 104-73 in the championship game of the Northwest Athletic conference Tournament Sunday." (Spokesman-Review)

Anderson 13/20; 3/5 threes; 10 rebounds, three assists; three steals; two blocked shots.

Can we minimize the turn overs and can we defend the three point line?

If so it's 78-68 USU; if not it's 82-70 FSU

We had several teams of national importance in Logan in the olden days: So. Cal, K-State, Georgia, Washington, Washington State, Ohio State - off the top of my head. (WSU not a big deal now, but was then)
