Re: WSU
For what it's worth, everyone I know at WSU, which is objectively nobody that would really know(just professors in the Business school) all expect WSU to effectively be in the MW in the next few years. The PAC 2 had to split their sports between multiple conferences for legal reasons to keep the pac...

He has been around long enough that he has got to be graduating... right?
Call me old school but transfers are easier for me to handle if the guy is walking away with a degree.

This move makes Hillstead entering the portal look pretty dumb. Glad we were able to pay coop for announcing he was coming back last winter just to enter the portal in the spring. I sure as hell hope we didn’t burn any NIL Cash on Cooper Yup, there were 2 other quarterbacks in USU history with a hi...

Re: Pope to Kentucky
He'll be great at the on-court stuff. Who knows about the other stuff. Ryan Smith will probably buy Chris Burgess for them, though, and he'll handle the recruiting. The problem is that a chair could do a half decent job at recruiting to byu... for a lot of kids it does not matter who is recruiting ...

Re: Pope to Kentucky
If byu pulls off this Kevin Young hire that’s a great get for them. He was a finalist for the Nets job, is highly respected, and is considered to be on the fast track to an NBA head coaching job. Chris Burgess was very underwhelming. But Kevin Young is a different ballgame. I still dont get the lov...

Re: Wesley Brooks Named Head WBB Coach
The team announced two new assistants today - Velaida Harris, the former head coach at Weber State. Had a terrible stint there, but has some decent experience before that including stops at Utah, Rhode Island and Oregon. Alexis Hyder, a former player for Brooks at North Texas. Also played at LSU an...

Re: 2024 USU Hoops Coaching Carousel
Will be interesting to see how this plays out. I’m not super crazy, at least on paper, about basically porting over a bunch of staff from YSU to Logan, but that seems to be the path these things usually take. While the Calhoun hire grew on me, what YSU accomplished wasn’t impressive enough to me to...

Re: Utah Hockey
Jazz note with a puck and hockey stick could look good. Whatever Smith chooses I tend to gravitate toward consistent branding at least in color scheme. Unfortunately Smith went ugly AF with highlighter yellow.. But like how Washington teams owned by Leonsis are consistent, I think that would be goo...

Re: Utah Hockey
I have heard speculation that part of the deal is that Smith cannot keep the coyotes name. The seller gets to retain the rights to the name in case he can bring a team back to Arizona in the future.
Similar when the super sonics left Seattle and became the Thunder.

Re: 2024 USU Hoops Coaching Carousel
What’s the deal with Austin Hansen? He was Smiths assistant coach and has stuck around in the valley. Is he an option for an assistant coaching position? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I wouldn't count on it. Disinterest from him, from USU, or from the new coaching staff? Just because I haven't...

https://twitter.com/rivalsportal/status/1778842397029409165?s=46 This kid is a hooper and we need to do a full court press to go get him. Out of everyone in that roster he might be the one I want most at Utah state. He and Robinson are basically it. Didn't someone on the board say it takes 2 days f...

With Madsen out. All their top canidates are guys we would not even pick up the phone for. Burgess is the best option and at this point of his career might be considered for openings at WAC or big sky schools.
Crazy.

Re: Pope to Kentucky
Given the lack of good candidates, I bet they leverage some of their huge donors, of which there are several, and throw all the money at Madsen. BYU will have no trouble at all coming up with the money once they decide that's their path. Imagine paying thar much money for a guy that just won 13 gam...

But seriously the canidate pool has got to be pretty depressing for byu fans. Your top canidates in order. 1. Madsen-The current head coach of a team that just won 13 games in a poor Pac12 conference. Given that he was sucessfull at uvu for a few years. Who by the way has an insane buyout. 2. Burges...

Re: Pope to Kentucky
There is zero chance they can afford Madsen's buyout. Maybe had he not signed an extension after the season, but no way they can do it now. Scotty suggested Barrett Peery. If I were to guess, I'd guess he's the guy. Seems like the best of all the options I've heard. I know a donor there that could ...

After Mark Madsen, the LDS coaching pool is as shallow as a kiddie pool. They might be screwed with their limitations. Seriouslly... Cummard is an assistant for their Women team... Lewis is a high school coach now. Burgess is probably the best bet but has zero head coaching experience. https://twit...

We need Haslam. Is there even a chance of that?? Nope. He has a new gig. It's just not for me to disclose where. Did he have a spot here and choose this other opportunity or did he not have a spot here at USU That I'm not 100% sure on yet. I would say his move is a step up in perception and a step ...

We almost surely need 2 PGs in the portal right? We were counting on the incoming freshman Hill to pick up a lot of minutes, any idea if Barnes can handle the Javon role from last year right off the bat? That depends on if Martinez is coming back. You might role with one transfer and Barnes if you ...

He has HEARD from those schools. That might not mean he has an offer from each of those schools. Though maybe with the transfer portal and how fast teams have to move with portal guys, maybe he does have an offer from all those schools.

Well we saw what a Utah State season looks like last year. Yah. I know other schools have more money, but winning matters. Can you ...
