Re: 1280 The Zone

Tony was let go a little while ago due to layoffs across all of the Miller businesses. I hope he lands on his feet in this market. I really enjoy listening to Tony and think he is a hidden gem when it come to play-by-play. Was hoping to see him get a break in that respect soon. Wow. I'm not sure an...

Re: Came across a gem today

It was kind of a staple of John L. Smith's teams to lack discipline on the field. He actually had some pretty talented players, but they did have a tendency to collectively make errors at the wrong times, which cost them some games. He was a hot coaching commodity for a while, but he has fallen lots...

Re: Jay Don Blake

If I remember right, he won the title his junior season and then was one stroke off from winning it again his senior season. That's awesome. I wonder if there are any other National Champions since then in the individual sports. We only have track, XC, tennis, gymnastics, and golf that have individ...

I had also heard the name and knew that he was a Utah native. (Even a USU graduate.) I follow golf from a distance so that part wasn't a surprise, but I didn't know he had won the individual title. We only have a few National Championships, team or individual, so that is a cool story for a sportless...

Call it ignorance, but I never knew he won the NCAA golf tournament in 1980. (It was the year after I was born.) This has to be one of the highlights in USU athletic history, he is basically retired now according to the news, but he made several million dollars as a pro golfer. I know volleyball won...

If Kiper was a GM, he'd have been fired a long time ago. He once said John Walsh was potentially the #1 pick, and a surefire first rounder. Went to the Bengals in the 7th round, never played a down in the NFL. I still remember that from a generation ago. https://www.deseret.com/2007/5/1/20016093/ki...

Re: SDSU #1 seed, USU #11 seed in the NCAA tournament

We were 11 going in. This win bumps us up a line or 3 We weren't "going in". We would've been left out easily. Yep we had to win today. We were not going to get an at-large. We were barely in "the last 4" and that would have barely lasted with bubble teams building their resume over the next week. ...

SDSU is a great team

Troll friends aside, they are by no means overrated at all. I expect they will have a chance to do some damage in the tournament. I went to the SDSU game in Logan and they were impressive. That is what makes this win even sweeter. I didn't know if the team had it in them, so glad to see the fight co...

Re: Did Breaker Mendenhall get past 22 or did I miss it?

Even if Breaker was a 4* recruit, playing for your Dad is always a bad idea. Dan Hawkins was heavily criticized at CU when Cody played there. QB is particularly prone to that. Though the Whittingham kids, Andersen boys, and Lavell Edward's sons all did all right when they played for their dads. Hop...

The article itself is actually kind of funny, Boise aside. Harmon complains that BYU players from the 80's weren't getting player of the week enough, 35 years ago. He posits these same admins hold the same grudges against Boise. I don't know about anyone else sees something different, but most of th...

Re: Prima Donna support group

The fact is, we are the only other viable football conference out west after the PAC12. We need to start acting like it. If Boise wants to go kill themselves financially in the AAC, or kill themselves literally in independence, let them go. But if they have a big dropoff in football, they likely wo...

Honestly Alabama shares TV revenue equally with Vanderbilt, don't know why these people think they should be any di...

Boise is not the program everyone makes them out to be. Yes, they are the best in the MW, but ever since Chris Petersen has left, they are not dominant. They don't always win the league or even the division. They average less than 35,000 per game, and season ticket sales are falling. The reason they...

This is after being a dominant program for 20 years now and being 11-1 going into that game. Are their fans just bored of success? Weber State heading to FCS semifinals, took down Montana

Going to play James Madison next week. I have to say I am slightly jealous of the setup FCS has. Any team from any conference can get into the playoffs if the conference participates (the Ivy league nor the SWAC do not.) It is exciting to see a genuine tournament where all teams are given a chance t...
