2024 Track and Field
Track is back- or at least indoor track. Overall the team seems to be doing about the same as last year relative, I haven’t followed the results too closely to say. The conference championship meet is this weekend. Day one was yesterday and the men’s team is in second place and the women’s team is i...

Re: BPI, which the committee uses, penalizes schools at high altitude
Does being at elevation increase the home court advantage? Absolutely. Is it a big enough advantage that teams should be penalized for it? I don’t think so- especially since being physically fit is part of the deal. You have to have the depth and fitness to play 3 (or 4, if you don’t get a bye) game...

Re: 2023 Cross Country
The regionals race was today. Women finished 8th with Emma Thornley as our top runner. She placed 23rd. Men finished 10th with Max Wehri as our top runner. He placed 43rd. I think Emma is the only one with a remote chance at an individual qualifier for nationals. That would require that every team ...

2023 Cross Country
Today is the mountain west cross country championships. On the men’s side we seem to be a decent team- we’re ranked #8 in the Mountain region, which is always deep- but unless we pull up a major upset and get top 4 at regionals we’re not going to nationals. We just haven’t done enough this year. On ...

Re: Chari Hawkins
Chari has two steps to complete for team USA at the Olympics. Step one is to qualify for the Olympics. She has two paths here. The first is to get a qualifying mark, in her case 6480 points. She scored 6366, so she’s close. The second is to get in on placing. I’m unclear on the details of that, but ...

Re: Proof of MWC Media Bias Against USU
I’m not really bothered by preseason rankings. If anything it’s locker room material. I am bothered by the recognition when we do succeed. In 2021 we had no player/coaches of the year, 1 first team player, two first team players. We were I think 4th in honorable mentions. You’d think we’d have finis...

If they end up independent as a conference we need to blackball them or make them pay a king’s ransom for the privilege of playing away games.

Indoor Track and Field
The Mountain West Indoor track conference meet starts today. I haven’t followed indoor track this year as closely as I normally do, but it seems like as a team we are trending up and it should be a decent weekend for us. I’ll post updates periodically on this thread.

Re: Level of joy
If I had my way with the NCAA I’d separate football from everything else. Football has about 260 fcs and fbs teams. We’ll divide it into 4 leagues and there will be relegation and promotion with relegation/promotion happening every 3 years. Each league will have 8 conferences of roughly 8 teams each...

D+ My grading scheme: A- Div champion B- Div Runner-up C- bowl game eligible D- 4-5 wins F- fewer than 4 wins. They should’ve earned a C, but I knocked half a letter grade for not showing up to games (Alabama and a BOWL game are exhibits A and B) and another half grade for getting blown out by Weber...
