Re: Air Force

The thing with Air Force will always be getting an early lead. If you can’t do that, it’s a grind to the finish. I’ll be really happy with bowl eligibility this year, and don’t in any way think it’s a foregone conclusion we will be bowl eligible. We NEED to win SDSU badly to stay on track. Early se...

Re: Keys To The SDSU Game

Two simple things. Pressure and sacks on their q back. Little to no pressure on Love. And this has got to be SUPER concerning, because we haven't put pressure on either QB in either game. :headscratch: Agreed. I have wondered where Tipa has been. He is on the field, but I haven't heard his name cal...

Re: I don’t love our defensive scheme

I wouldn’t think we would need to do anything exotic or too crazy to get to the QB and get some TFL’s, especially as talented as we are and especially against Stony Brook. TFL’s - 1 Sacks -0 SB- TFL’s 6 Sacks 1 I know we are supposedly playing vanilla D but the lack of pressure really concerns me a...

Re: Yards per play

I have a few points here that I think make these numbers slightly misleading. Regarding the offense, our 'yards per play' stat last year was really brought down by 3 cold weather games. Wyoming, CSU & Boise. Outside of those cold weather games it was significantly higher. We have not played a cold ...

I like this staff and the promise they bring of another successful recruiting effort. I honestly do look at the defense and wonder about the 4-2 alignment vs the 3-4. Yes, we have some fine D linemen, yet I'm not seeing our linebackers successfully blitzing and disrupting the offense as in prior se...

Re: Some defensive personnel changes I noticed

I guess I don’t understand. How do you have a 4th LB in a 3-3-5? Again, I said it's "essentially a 3-3-5". Not "is a 4th LB in a 3-3-5". As you referenced, teams are putting 5 DB's on the field to combat the spread with speed in their defense. So what I'm talking about is a way to combat the spread...

Re: Keys To The SDSU Game

What do people think will be the keys to beating SDSU. -I think we need to sustain drives and get up on them early. They are generally not a team that are able to come back from many scores. -Be able to run the ball effectively and not be 1 dimensional. -Stop their passing game and make them 1 dime...

Nice to see posters shift away from OC complaints to where the focus needs to be...defensive scheme and/or coaches. This is Stony Brook and the total yards 263(?) and especially 108 (?) on the ground is too many. Even 155 in the air is hard to digest. I suspect if Gary does not take over the coordi...

I think this argument has some merit if we were losing at that point of the game, but no way I give up a lead, 1 yard line or not. I'd still be hard pressed to do it even if we were behind. D had stopped them twice already on the goal line and damn near had them again. Obviously 20-20, but I would ...

600 yards, 5 touchdowns. A decision to not kick a field goal, 3 turnovers, less-than-great execution in spots (game 1 mistakes). It's not all on the OC. Dead on. There are concerns with this team. Namely the damned secondary and kind of a rigid defensive scheme. I hated the play calling at the end ...

I'm worried about their QB breaking off big gains out of the option. Better not happen with the 4 2 5 losing contain on the QB. It should be really tough to run RPO option against us as long as the interior guys are doing their jobs. I'm more worried about our young safeties not getting caught up i...

Our secondary is what scares me the most, unfortunately I think we get torched in the secondary tonight... That was my point earlier. Haney in particular worries me. Plays per game doesn't not necessarily mean fast. I think AFA had the most plays per game last year in the MW right? That triple option racks up a lot of plays and a lot of TOP, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it operates at a quick/high tempo. No, it doesn't. But I guess I'm one of the only o...
