Coaching Candidates

I don’t think you can judge frank on these games much as I would suspect most of the coordinators would be gone if he is the head coach. If Frank is hired I could see Collins staying if he were given the DC job. Who is our acting OC anyway? Reeder or Schramm? Could see Schramm stay and be OC if he ...

Re: Coach Smith tests positive for COVID

How many of the players and staff have already had it?
Is it also possible it was a false positive? Any chance he gets a negative test each of the next 3 days and he can get cleared to coach on Saturday?

Why did they even announce it. Coach Smith has a couple look-a-likes already on staff. Just dress up Austin Hansen or Justin Johnson and no one would have even known any better.

List your top 5 candidates

Jay Hill would be a great choice for the next coach. I can see the argument being made for Choate as well. However, Weber State has one of the biggest budgets in all of FCS and Montana State has the BIGGEST budget in all of FCS (more money than NDSU and JMU). When you compare who they're recruiting...

This HC search is tighter than a puppy’s butt hole

Not too excited about Holtz or Blake Anderson. Spavital is more interesting to me but I’d prefer to let him prove he can build a winner at Texas State first. Billy Napier would be a great choice if looking at the Sun Belt but his new 880k contract will likely keep him at Lafayette until a really att...

McElwain won conference coach of the year in 3 different FBS conferences (MWC, SEC, MAC) within a 5 year period. That’s pretty impressive. We’d be dumb not to consider him if he expressed interest.

Re: Coaching Candidates

I’d take McElwain in a heart beat. He had mediocre results at Florida but that was just an odd fit for him. He’s an offense guy, had good results everywhere else, been successful in the MWC, and seen the inner workings of Alabama. He’s doing a great job at CMU after taking over a 1-11 team as he was...

Re: Coaching Candidates

Leipold may have his sites set on the BigTen but he may follow the Urban Myer path by going from the MAC to the MWC to a P5 job.

I have no doubt the guy can coach. Just wonder about fit and if he could recruit to Logan, or if he’d embrace the formula that GA and Wells proved works at USU.

I actually love bairstows potential. 6’8” athletic guard. They just need to find a way to slow him down on the turnover side. I like his potential too and think he’s a valuable piece of our program. I just think it’d be beneficial to play him off ball for a while until the game slows down for him m...

Nice Job

He’s too soft and unable to handle the heat from aggressive defenders. I too have struggled with Bairstow's game. As soon as there is a defender close, TO or he will get blocked. He has glimpses of good, but he has need for more development. I really like Bairstow in theory, but he seems to be a bi...

I loved the emotion and passion he played with today. He was firing up the troops at times and that was great to see. He does play and work very hard, which makes up for some physical limitations. He’s had a great shooting stroke all along and now his mental game is settling in and allowing his shot...

This is troubling. DHC has stepped up and impressed the last couple games but both Noa and Gentry have been just so-so. They are young and will develop further and maybe now is the time to get them plenty or reps to prepare for next season.

This third game really helped figure some things out. The starters are now pretty obvious with Queta, Bean, Miller, Anthony, and Worster, and they have separated themselves as the top 5. I think that 5 can play with most teams as they continue to gel. I'm concerned about our depth behind them though...

I wondered the same thing. I understand the foul trouble thing but Queta just needs to learn to play it right. He doesn't always have to leave his feet to swat the shot. If he's in tight with them he can just stand up straight and make the shot difficult enough. Teams like UNI are way more likely to...

Worster is clearly the most ready of our freshmen, which was a total surprise for me seeing as some of these other guys played FIBA ball and Worster was in Montana. Good for him. He seems to have the “it” factor. Ashworth is ok but he’ll need to get stronger to compensate for his height. He needs to...

That was a tough matchup for a couple freshmen guards to cut their teeth on. Invaluable experience but I prefer getting both experience and the W. Our next two games will be against teams more like us and we should be able to run half court stuff.

Lots to work on but if we play 40 minutes of decent ball instead of 30 we likely win by 15. That’s the frustrating part of this one. Like was mentioned, we missed Sam as he would turn the tide of the sinking ship. Someone’s got to step up and do that. It may be Rollie. Rollie is poised beyond his ye...

Great insight. But what about the new foreign guys? You didn't mention them in your write up. I see that 22 has both Shulga and Vedischev listed in his write-up on the Forwards.
