Re: Stadium pre-season rankings

Chris Murray clarifying his preseason picks. "http://nevadasportsnet.com/sports/mens-basketball/sorting-the-mountain-west-basketball-teams-into-tiers-for-2019-20-season" I do think he is correct that you are overwhelming favorites. He also says the rest is a crapshoot, saying that he could place NV ...

Re: Stadium pre-season rankings

Jazz played 28.6 minutes a game this past season. He did pretty well defensively..Taller players can shoot over him but he is very quick and can stay in front of guys. In Mussleman's system all the guys switched all the time so Jazz had times where he was switched to bigs. I am not sure Alford will ...

Re: Stadium pre-season rankings

It is hard to explain but when you are the big dogs all the pressure is on you. You didn't fly under the radar last season but you also weren't the top team until late in the year. Teams will be absolutely delighted to wreck your season if they can. It is remarkably hard for any mid major to stay in...

Re: Stadium pre-season rankings

I don’t agree with the “will play with a target on their back, unlike last season.” In the context that this is about the Mountain West, we had proved that we were a very good team by the time conference play came around. Just before conference play started, we were being picked behind only Nevada....

Re: Stadium pre-season rankings

Nevada does have some unknowns but they do return 6 players recruited by Muss. Some of those guys were sitting out as redshirts, some are returners from last season and Drew is returning. Murray has seen all those guys play a lot so he has a pretty good handle on them. All but one of the new guys is...

Speaking of the draft..

Espn just posted their first 2020 Mock Draft

They have Quetta going to Philly with pick 54 and Derrick Alston to Charlotte at 46.

Re: Last year's opponents in NBA draft

Cody doesn't have a leg kick when he shoots. Until Drew got hurt he basically just played the 4 for both NC State and Nevada. When he got a chance to play the point his game really expanded. He went from an undersized 4 to a big 1. His mechanics are not broken at all. He is fundamentally sound. Cale...

Re: Article about poaching problem for mid majors

The NCAA can probably clean this up. It is not just the big schools..AAU coaches and often parents facilitate a lot of this. The Portal is a positive step but more can be done. However, if a kid wants to leave they will leave regardless of illegal contact or not. Nevada lost a couple of kids to P5 b...

Re: Smith in no hurry to use last schollie

Do you think Smith will carry a 12 man active roster ? I think all 12 eligible players will play throughout the season. Thanks...I believe Alford is looking to have 11 play with two transfers sitting out. I suspect he will play more guys than Muss did, Nevada still has 2 open scholarships to fill..

Re: Don Verlin fired at Idaho

No backhanded death wish. If he can win there he will get a good job elsewhere. If he loses, at least he got a shot. When Trent Johnson took the Nevada job it was considered a career killing gig. He was happy to get a D-1 chance and he went on to be quite successful. Idaho has had good teams before,...

Re: Is it possible that the Aggies will be the best in the west?

I like the Alford hire. He was very good in the MW before. His record in the NCAA's is irrelevant to me. He has won over 500 games as a head coach..I think we were lucky to get him.. One of the things that struck me about this hire..Johnson, Fox , Carter and Muss had never been a head coach in colle...

I think with this very nice product you have it would be better to get out of Utah and get folks in other parts of the country to see what your team can do.

Anything less than being the top team in the west, in the top 10 nationally and a deep run in the tourney would have to be considered a colossal failure given your preseason hype...:) I see what you’re doing and the emoji suggests it’s somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but the difference between this Aggie...

So, if you were to get an at large bid from perhaps the 15th best conference in the country and lose in the first round (something 32 teams, mostly mid majors), do every year the Aggies would represent a "cautionary tale" for some other mid major team ? What a completely different Nevada team did la...

I am not understanding this notion that Nevada had a "let down" season last year..Nevada had a fine season and got an at large bid..They played as well as they could..They didn't shoot well and they had some injuries down the stretch. But the season was a success. The expectations came from the outs...
