Re: DeAngelo Isby: wasted scholarship, or am I missing something?

Per the advanced stats posted in another thread, Taylor is 2nd on the team in box plus/minus and 3rd on the team in true shooting %. Obviously advanced stats don't tell the whole story, but both stats and the eye test show Quinn has been good for us and has more than held his own out there. It's no...

Re: Fresno St. Game

Duryea rarely outcoaches his peers, but he has run circles around Rodney Terry twice this year. Fresno came into both games with an apparent lack of preparation and motivation. The typical pattern for the offense this year has been to attempt some set plays, make no adjustments when the opponent dis...

Re: Jalen Moore

The perception of Jalen suffers from several factors outside of his control. His quiet nature is perceived as indifference, his poor lateral quickness is perceived as a lack of defensive effort and his slight frame is perceived as softness. And, of course, his teammates haven't been especially talen...

Re: BSU game

Aggies shot 50% overall and 12 of 22 from deep to their 43% overall and 5 of 23 from 3. Strange and incredibly frustrating that we would lose a game with those numbers. Not only that, but Boise only shot 5/23 (22%) from 3. The problem was that Boise just dominated the boards. Doesn't matter how hig...

Re: Duryea Poll

You could construct an argument for a 6-7 on the hire if it had been announced in tandem with Stew's announcement that he was stepping down. Probably overly risk averse even at that point, but Duryea has a relatively low floor and there is very real value to that security and continuity. Having wait...

For me it was his reaction prior to and immediately after the Jardine dunk at St. Mary's. As you watch the play unfold you see him telling Pane to slow down, but, next thing you know Jardine silences the entire gym and Stew simply pulls his pants up and puts his hands on his hips, with an expression...

The Morrill of this story is that it is a lot easier to tolerate a stubborn, arrogant coach who wins than it is to tolerate a stubborn, arrogant coach who loses. This goes for players and fans alike.

If it weren't for Stew, I probably wouldn't even be a fan of USU, so I've kept quiet on this topic, but Kyle leaving is the tipping point. I don't see it so much as pulling my head out as the straw that broke the camel's back. To the best of my recollection, Kyle is the first departure under Stew th...

I'm 6'4" 200 lbs and I usually feel at a disadvantage weight-wise to people playing in my church league. Re: Monday Morning QB

I would have liked to have seen Stew allow the players a little more leeway to gamble on defense. Nearly every single player on the team was sub-par defensively so selling out for a few steals would have been worth it since the players couldn't keep anyone in front of them anyway.

Re: NAR: Go Vandals!!!

The way I see it is that USU and NMSU are pretty close historically, but USU has the edge. Despite NMSU's Final Four appearance, the northern Aggies have been substantially better on average. In the 2009 college basketball encyclopedia, Jeff Sagarin had USU 72nd and NMSU 119th. Considering USU had t...

Spicer and Wilkinson are the exceptions rather than the rule. Furthermore, they played in a substantially weaker conference and were recruited 5-10 years ago. There may well be gems out there and I hope the staff finds them, but needing to recruit this late cannot be construed as a good thing.

Didn't click the link at first and spent a solid minute trying to think of a great University of Virginia player named "James."

As awesome as that projection is, that sort of extravagance is best left for the NBA imo. I'll take Big Blue rappelling down from the Spectrum roof any day of the week.

Bummer that the Stone departure is true. Both Stone and Berger are great guys and very easy to root for, but I don't think Berger has a lot to offer at the MWC level. He was probably more valuable than Stone in the WAC but Stone's skill set translates much better to the MWC. He would have been a ver...

As I recall freakboy once did some simulations on this, and the BYU fan is simply wrong. Win-loss record accounts for 25% of the RPI. One thing to consider is that Air Force is the only MWC team that's ever gone to the CIT. In terms of the worst games by a single player against USU, I've always thought of Jonathan Tavernari's 1/11 game at the Spectrum. By going 2/17 and committing a truly game-changing technical foul, Daniel Bejarano is the new gold standard.

I gave a 16 game breakdown and split it 8 best and 8 worst. Not 1 game or even 3 games. Part of the reason that analytics haven't taken off as much in co...
