Re: NAR: Go Vandals!!!

The way I see it is that USU and NMSU are pretty close historically, but USU has the edge. Despite NMSU's Final Four appearance, the northern Aggies have been substantially better on average. In the 2009 college basketball encyclopedia, Jeff Sagarin had USU 72nd and NMSU 119th. Considering USU had t...

Re: Will we top 12 wins next year?

Spicer and Wilkinson are the exceptions rather than the rule. Furthermore, they played in a substantially weaker conference and were recruited 5-10 years ago. There may well be gems out there and I hope the staff finds them, but needing to recruit this late cannot be construed as a good thing.

Didn't click the link at first and spent a solid minute trying to think of a great University of Virginia player named "James."

As awesome as that projection is, that sort of extravagance is best left for the NBA imo. I'll take Big Blue rappelling down from the Spectrum roof any day of the week.

Re: Stone/Berger

Bummer that the Stone departure is true. Both Stone and Berger are great guys and very easy to root for, but I don't think Berger has a lot to offer at the MWC level. He was probably more valuable than Stone in the WAC but Stone's skill set translates much better to the MWC. He would have been a ver...

As I recall freakboy once did some simulations on this, and the BYU fan is simply wrong. Win-loss record accounts for 25% of the RPI. If you lose a game to a strong team, you lose a lot of RPI points due to win-loss record, and the very slight increase in SOS is not enough to offset it except in re...

One thing to consider is that Air Force is the only MWC team that's ever gone to the CIT. The CIT is supposed to be oriented towards mid-majors and a lot of sources don't consider the MWC to be a mid-major. Like how the MWC never participated in Bracket Busters. Mountain West teams and even some pow...

Here's a graphic of the win probability for this game. CSU appears to have had an over 99% win probablity at both the 2:40 mark (2 FTs made after Stone Foul) and the 1:35 (Smith jumper) mark. Cool visual of just how improbable this comeback was. http://i.imgur.com/H3miBnc.png This is a subscription ...

In terms of the worst games by a single player against USU, I've always thought of Jonathan Tavernari's 1/11 game at the Spectrum. By going 2/17 and committing a truly game-changing technical foul, Daniel Bejarano is the new gold standard.

That call was weak. I agree. The color commentator thought Shaw was in the wrong to even argue but it looked like they just got tangled up a bit. Shaw must have used some very strong words with the ref though, because that T came awfully quickly and it seemed to be based solely off of what Shaw sai...

I know everyone hates the midrange jumper, but Shaw has excellent touch and I think he can hit that shot fine. So according to analytics there is no such thing as a streak? This article is about the NBA, not ...

Re: Advanced Analytics

I gave a 16 game breakdown and split it 8 best and 8 worst. Not 1 game or even 3 games. I'm much more familiar with baseball analytics than basketball, but my educated guess is that 16 games isn't even close to statistical relevancy. Part of the reason that analytics haven't taken off as much in co...

For me, the Olympics came to town in 1996 and I saw Cuba demolish Australia something like 20-5 in an early round baseball game. It's not personal with Davis so relax. He does play hard which is great. However his game is limited. Out of the list above, was there even a single player that ever completed, let alone contributed to a div1 team @ our level or above? Agree with everything you said pretty much. Of course, if a second suspension is looming, that could be beyond devastating if it were another 4/5, but we'll have to hope it's not for now. Davis is going to have to play a ton of minutes. Ideally, he should play the whole game--Moore, Stone and Cliffo...

What can Jazz fans tell me about DeMarre Carroll? From what I've read, he sounds like an energy/rebounding/defense guy, which should be very useful for a defensively challenged team like the Hawks. Does he have hope of developing on the offensive end?

USU has enough history with at least NMSU that I'd like to keep up with the southern Aggies. The amazing thing about Leonard is he went from a 25% 3pt shooter in college to a 38% 3pt shooter in the NBA. It would be very interesting to see how his first two years would have panned out on any team other than the Spurs, especially 3pt shooting.

Olekaibe plays with a lot of energy, which really stood out in his freshman year. Fresno's teams under Steve Cleveland tended to lack consistent effort, but that was not the case for Olekaibe. I don't remember much else about his game other than what the stats could tell you.

It's just a brutal road-trip combined with the fact that Denver is a very good team. La Tech got more national attention because of their winning streak, but Denver is the best team in the WAC imo.
