Re: BYU ousted by ...

And ended (for the Y at least)! Yeah, the WCC tourney has been a week early for as long as I can remember (that's not saying much). That was how St. Mary's was able to schedule that late game with Weber State a couple of years ago to earn Lilliard a medical redshirt. And a couple years before that,...

Re: Texas Arlington game

Why does Clifford, a 25% 3-point shooter, even think about shooting from behind the line? I think that, if Clifford is open, he should take the 3. He was 7/18 last year and started this year 4/9. He's gone 1/13 since. He's right at 30% for his career--not good, but not bad enough over such a small ...

Agreed. A lot of the credit has to go to Stone as well. The perimeter players relied greatly on Stone's help D to avoid their 4th and 5th fouls. He delivered.

Re: We need to change things up

The recent subpar play is not resolving with time, so the next step is to try something different IMO. I already mentioned this, but we need a way to keep scoring options on the floor consistently. We have 5 starters who can score, CAN score, but don't always. Then we have 5 bench guys who can't sc...

Good stuff, Sap. I especially agree with your point about Kyisean--he does not get enough credit for just how good he is. To go along with his high shooting percentage, he also draws fouls at an incredibly high rate, making him one of the most efficient players in the WAC despite his troubles at the...

I think the Aggies and SFA are pretty evenly matched. Wyoming probably isnt much better than USU either. I agree with both utaggies and treesap--the FT% and defense are troubling.

As a lifelong Braves fan, of course I believe Dale Murphy should be in the HoF. I was too young to watch him play, but the reverence with which everyone here who did watch him play has me convinced. I'm usually a pretty cold numbers guy, but Murphy meant so much to Atlanta. Only Dominique Wilkins an...

NAR: Looked at the box score for that game--Alan Williams for UCSB scored 29 points on 13 shots (11/15 FT) and had 17 rebounds. That's quite a game. Santa Clara losing to UCSB is a bummer. There's probably no reason for us to care about Top 100 RPI wins this year, but I thought the Broncos had a cha...

Was Kenneth Faried a lotto pick? He was 22nd overall. Did he get a win in the Spectrum against one of the other teams they played? It's reasonable for a national writer to pick Denver to win the WAC. They have more known quantities and fare very well in computer-based projections since their offense is so efficient. They're the highest-rated WAC team in Ken Pomeroy's ratings, as well. Chris Udofia is a really good player and wi...

I would be very interested to see how Berger fares at the 4. Could certainly create some match-up problems for opponents. Re: Utah Jazz 2012-13 Outlook

I was happy to see Marvin Williams have a good first game for the Jazz last night. He always teased Hawks fans with good games like that, but I could see him being more consistent in Utah, since it was hard for him to do much in Atlanta with Joe Johnson dominating the ball.

The second assumption, unlike the first, is a pretty major one at this point. I think the WAC regular season crown will be a dogfight between USU, NMSU and Denver. Nothing makes me happier than NCAA tourney wins, so I went with that. I also think a tourney win would do more for the basketball progra...

La Tech is the only team with much of a chance to be ranked, IMO. Their gaudy blow-outs and undefeated record are the kind of thing that makes the pollsters take notice. I don't doubt that USU or SJSU will be receiving votes, but cracking the top 25 will be very tough.

I would be more inclined to place the blame on the coaching staff's failure to recruit a reliable kicker than on Thompson himself. He is what he is. A 37-yard field goal is a 50/50 proposition for Thompson. The coaching staff either decided it wasn't a priority to improve on that or was unable to fi...

You can flip that around and say that Ichiro still plays plus defense in the corner outfield spots while Jeter is a liability defensively. Also, I think a big part of Ichiro's low batting average is the result of bad luck. For a contact/singles hitter like Ichiro, sometimes the hits just don't fall....
