Georgetown vs Coastal Carolina

This box score is a little bit scary. Coastal Carolina is the favorite in the Big South (a terrible league, I know, but the point is that Coastal Carolina isn't a COMPLETE push-over), and Georgetown hit 14-30 from three. EDIT: and it wasn't just this game, the Hoyas are shooting 42.5% from 3 this s...

Re: The 3s and your bigs

I agree with that assessment, though not the final outcome, of course. ;) The key to this game will be Pane/Green/etc knocking down the open jumpers created by BYU doubling Tai (and to a lesser extent Brady). I think they will knock down those jumpers and thus that the Aggies will win. Of course, an...

Re: BYU Gut Check

It all comes down to the Aggies' ability to hit shots. Plain and simple. The zoobs will have no choice but to double Tai, which will create open looks for Green/Newbold/Pane/Pooh if he plays. If they can knock those shots down, the Aggies will win. Jimmer won't take the game over completely. USU's p...

Re: Early Tournaments

I could very well be wrong about this, but this is my understanding: The NCAA caps schedules at 28 regular season games. The only way around this is to play in exempt tournaments. I'm not sure what the exact requirements are for a tournament to be exempt, but the Gossners meets those requirements. S...

the reffing when we played there last year is what lost the game for us too. we dominated them until the refs decided they didn't like that. I attended this game and I can vouch that this statement is not true. Northeastern was on fire and we were playing scared in the second half. Dumb turnovers, ...

Re: :( Pooh questionable for BYU

It's very important that Pooh not play if he's not at least 85% or so Hamstring/Groin injuries will limit Pooh even more than most. It seems to me that those injuries would greatly hinder his lateral quickness and make him a much less effective defender, which is his primary usefulness. We all saw h...

I was at this game. It was a lot of fun. I've been to the Convocation Center a couple times before and it's always been deserted. Hard to believe that it was the same place tonight. Very intimidating venue. The first half reminded me a bit of USU/Weber with the smaller school getting super hot from ...

You know what I liked the most about Grim in this game? How physical he was. I'm not sure if it was just the way that Boylen was using him at Utah, but he always came off as soft to me. Against WSU though he really stuck his nose in there and didn't shy away from contact at all. That was the knock ...

Just looked at the box score. Lord Gillenwater had 30 pts on 10/17 shooting and 5/9 from 3. He also had 8 boards. Rahman also had an excellent night scoring 18 on 6/9 shooting and grabbing 7 rebounds. So NMSU was really able to have their way inside, with the exception of McKines's replacement being...

The last loss prior to that was that ridiculous 71-66 loss to Fresno, so, yes, I believe so. Only one loss at the Spectrum. And that was a game that USU had, I felt, and only lost due to foul trouble.

There's a lot more to it, but the short answer is Stew Morrill. The way he runs a program is just about unparalleled. While I wouldn't call him a favorite, I agree with Treesap that Geiger should be big for Idaho.

Well said, AgTime. The WAC is in a tough spot and as bad as the UTSA/TXST/Seattle/Denver solution sounds, at least the WAC survives. Although I'm holding out hope for both Montana joining and of course an MWC invite for USU.

It should be noted that post was written in 2004. Obviously, there isn't any kind of rivalry between USU and UCI right now. The mere mention of the name Jerry Green still makes my blood boil, but in the grand scheme of things the USU/UCI rivalry is now a footnote. So if we're exempting BYU and Utah ...

Morris and Bullinger are their starting bigs, I think. Bullinger is a returning starter and Morris is a first year starter as a senior. I don't think either one is as good as Panos, but I'm really not too familiar with Weber.

I really don't see how he can figure the OVC champ as a 10 seed and the WAC champ as a 13 seed. Murray's bound to drop at least as many games as last year, when they were at 12 seed.

I'm gonna refrain from predicting the BB game as well, so I'll say 13-1, with the loss of course coming either at Georgetown or BYU. Grim does worry me a bit, especially defensively. I'm also concerned about what's seemed like a tendency to not go strong to the rim. He should be serviceable against the lesser teams on the schedule, but it's imperative that Tai and Brady stay out of foul trouble against the tougher teams.

The thing is, there is really no way to establish who is "really" the best team in any given year. Whether a team won a postseason tournament or was named a champ, there are always going to be disputes. Were the Giants really the best baseball team this year? Who was the best team when LSU and USC s...

NMSU will be very good if they can get any kind of consistent guard play from their newcomers, but I don't think that the loss of Bendall really impacts USU's chances too much against the southern Aggies. I'd expect Jardine to perform better against NMSU because he can match them in terms of athleti...

I may be missing something, but how can this really hurt USU? The only way I can see is Hawaii (or SJSU) getting invited by the MWC to replace TCU.
