Usually after reading a topic, the "new" comment icon is gone and the thread shows as read. Now I have to manually click on the "mark forum as read" button. Did something change?

Nothing has changed. I'm guessing that there is probably some caching problem on your end.

So I figured this out on my end for Global Announcements.

If I click "View First Unread Post" in front of the title (which I do pretty much every time) the thread will still show as being unread. Which I used to then have to do what 2004 is and mark all forums read.

But, if I click "View the Latest Post" by the right of the username, it properly marks it as read.

Again, this only happens for the Global Announcments

Here is my theory on global announcements:

I've seen some strange things with them because they are essentially a single post that originates from, and needs to be housed in one forum that is broadcast to every forum on the site. This seems to create issues with the "unread thread" thing. Depending on where people comment from (one guy might comment in Stew's Spectrum and another guy might comment in Merlin Olsen Field) it can get mixed up a little bit. It's somewhat unpredictable. There have been a couple other quirky things that I've noticed about moving a thread from one forum into a Global Announcement, but I don't recall all the specific details.

When you take down a global announcement it asks you which forum you want to send it to.

do you know you can make it a global announcement when you originally post the thread? That may help the situation you are seeing.

I think when I did GA's during PICK'EM - I didn't notice the "Unread" tag on all forums until the announcement had been read. Then again, it's been 8 months, I may not remember

All of the current Global Announcements were made "Global" when I posted them. You still have to start in a specific forum when you create them though....
