Heading to San Antone in the morning..

Post by Elkaggie » October 21st, 2012, 11:25 am

Aggiesox and I are flying out in the morning and will be there all week. We will be at the game Saturday. This is my first road trip with the team (other than the local teams). Wondering what to do while there, and if there are any pre-game activities for Aggie fans?

I had considered making the drive, but SA is a ways from Huntsville, too. Money is tight and I've got to stick around this weekend, anyway, to help a fellow Aggie with some house shopping. I've already invited him over to watch the game at my place.

Eat at Rudy's barbecue. Make sure to get some banana pudding for dessert too

It's a nice enough town. If you go inside the Alamo, don't take pictures except of the landscape. The inside is a church and it isn't allowed.

The river walk is pretty nice. It is a pretty big town, it's amazing this is the first college team. The Spurs are the only show in town.

Alamo is a waste of time, eat out three times a day, alternating between mexican and bbq

If you can find a Chuy's tex-mex, eat there. Hit the riverwalk. Hit the alamo. Rudy's bbq is good. There are a few good tex-mex places right on the river (of the riverwalk). Eat at one of those. SA is great... I'm still debating making the trip... But I might need to save $$ for LaTech...

If you're into amusement park type stuff, Six Flags, Sea Word, and Schlitterbahn are all in the SA area. Definitely go to Riverwalk, and take the boat tour. Plenty of restaurants, theater, clubs in downtown Riverwalk area. SA is great, lived there for three years. Have fun!

You're spending a week in SA? Are you retired or something?

I'm lucky enough to be born Texan. We live on the coast about 2 1/2 hours southeast of San Antonio. It is the favorite tourist spot for Texans as there is always something to do around there. Visit the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum. Mi Tierra is a nice mexican cafe that is open 24 hours that you really need to check out. If you go there be sure to see the huge wall mural of famous Hispanics they have, pretty cool. Get the carne asada tacos and some pan dulce (they have a bakery, too).

If I was in Texas I'd be eating BBQ and shooting feral hogs. Have fun and stay away from the border.

I stayed at the Posada Ana Best Western airport,
What a find. 67.00/ nightly rate with hot breakfast (omelettes cooked to order)
Newer property in great shape! Keep it in mind!
Heading to the Alamo and Riverwalk next!
