Centers continues to impress for a guy 5'9.
Thoughts on other players? Surprises? Disappointments?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Re: USU's Defenders' Stats After 5 Games
I'm a little surprised at how few guys we rotate in at LB this year. Our starters are really strong but it makes me wonder about the guys behind them. Granted several of them are new and probably still learning the system.
Re: USU's Defenders' Stats After 5 Games
My first impressions:
BJ Larsen has exceeded my expectations to this point. 6 TFL and 3 sacks impress me.
Starting linebackers are excellent with 19.5 TFL between them. Torrey Green has had a lapse or two but has done an exceptional job filling in for Fack IMO. The glaring stat this is the lack of depth/experience beyond the starters. An injury here would be very costly.
Would like to see more PBU's from the DB's but they have done a decent job overall. Clearly need to limit big plays. Safety's are clearly our strong point at the backend.

Sutera is playing great and had two big his in the Byu Game. The biggest disappointment is gray. He gets burned almost every play his way.

I'm impressed that Centers is tied for the team lead in sacks.

I don't think you will see much from Moala until end of season or lots next year. The 2 in front of him are very good and Moala probably is still not in great game shape. Glad to have him as a third man for that position

I think the biggest surprise is the lack of use by the backup linebackers...I thought they would be used more. I wonder if this is a product of our starters are very good and we use alot of nickel and dime packages or the backups are not very good. I imagine a little of both.

That plus not having a ton of depth thanks to season ending injuries to 2 starters. Both LT and Green were slated to be backups this year. It appears as if Wells is trying to preserve redshirts for Christensen and Togiai (unless they've played and I've just missed it).slcagg wrote:I think the biggest surprise is the lack of use by the backup linebackers...I thought they would be used more. Lot of 2/3 backer sets from my observation.AggieAddict wrote:I'm a little surprised at how few guys we rotate in at LB this year. Our starters are really strong but it makes me wonder about the guys behind them. Granted several of them are new and probably still learning the system.
