QB Injuries and Similarities to Last Season

Post by tkmad » October 21st, 2014, 10:02 am

Some of the events and injuries a eerily similar to last season: Keeton was hurt right in the thick of ours schedule. Harrison came in to finish BYU and start vs Boise. We pulled DG's red shirt at halftime. DG does just enough to win the easier MWC games on the schedule and develops into a pretty good QB.

Now DG gets hurt during one of the major games of this season vs CSU. Harrison comes in and is unable to get the win. Looks like Harrison will start the next game, although the competition is not at the level of Boise who he started against last year, it's likely the freshman comes in at some point.

What's not the same: last year we had a decent running game that could take some of the load off DG while he learned the offense and pace of the game at the college level. This allowed DG To manage games and make simple, short, and quick throws. Will our run game step up now we are at the soft spot of the schedule? Without us getting a run game, I don't see us having the same success we did with a true freshman last year.

Also, even though we are in the soft spot of the schedule and we should beat these teams, the Hawaii and Wyoming games don't set up favorably if we are breaking in a new QB. Travel to Hawaii is always tough and teams this year have struggled on the island. We then have a short week and play Wyoming on the road on a Friday. Given travel back from Hawaii and to Wyoming, could mean only a couple practices that week for the QB.

I hear the team will be traveling back from Hawaii on an aircraft carrier, and will have plenty of space to hold practice. This way they are not losing a day of practice.

With the way things are going, this could be a bad idea. We might lose a player or two in the ocean.
