IKE!

Post by cdaAg » September 30th, 2023, 1:27 pm

The man's hands have an intense magnetic attraction to a football, especially on special teams. Thank you good sir!

Saved our bacon for sure. What a play. It shouldn't have come down to that however. Blake took his foot off the gas two drives too early.

Yeah, I agree. Tuned in for the last part of the fourth quarter. The minute USU got the ball with a TD lead and inside the 50 yard line, I was thinking to myself "step on their necks". Then suddenly three lackluster runs up the middle and I was thinking they decided to try and play not to lose. That strategy, and the prevent defense with a one score lead, are the two most frustrating things to see as a fan, because at least in USUs case, it ends up being a play not to win offense and a prevent victory defense.

Ike should be the opposite CB to Drew. MA is always missing in action and slow to tackle.

I lost it on the non-pass on the 3 v 2 set.

I don’t know about that. Ike is a great safety. Don’t neuter him by confining him to a smaller portion of the field.

MA needs to be replaced in the starting lineup. UConn basically all of their completed passes on MA. Ike shadowed as CB, and he did a great job. Drew does a solid job on pass coverage. The remaining DB position should be a mix of Dye, Harris, Dickerson, and Switzer.

Ike is a better player when he has the chance to survey the field and read and react. Let him use his instincts it seems to be working out.

Regardless, we need to replace MA. It was painful to see blown coverages all game long.

My thoughts exactly! Run and gun till the end, or up 3 scores with less then 2 minutes.

I was thinking the same thing. Nothing to lose in that situation to try and pick it up and run. If successful we would have had a 3 point lead and a little more comfort if the onside kick for them would have been successful.

In our infamous ugly 12-9 over Southern Utah in 2015, doing it was the difference between it ending 12-9 in regulation and it going to OT at 10-10. We also did it against Boise one year.

Remember we had multiple posters on here making multiple threads about IKE when he was in high school. About what a huge mistake USU made by taken him. How he was a bad kid. He was a team cancer. He was never gonna make it at USU.. people say the dumbest things when their kid gets beat out of playing time by a better kid.

Yeah..... we are going to be damn lucky to keep him cause he will have crazy NIL money thrown his way. Glad USU did the right thing.

I couldn’t agree more. As soon as he fell down at Iowa he should have been benched. He’s too slow and bad in coverage and takes horrible angles in the run game, overall he doesn’t have the speed to be effective. He’s been picked on all year!

I honestly don’t know what they see in him.

Post game interview with Scotty & Kevin. They talked to Jalen then to Ike. Then when BA was on the tuba players walked up right behind him & started playing as he was doing the interview. You can hear BA call the class act several times in jest. Then as he came back on he said somethings about the tuba players trying to find out why he has red hair.

So what if it takes a weird bounce, try to pick it up anyway. If you don't it's a dead ball.

I'm probably wrong but let's say he mishandles the ball. It's still live at that point if I uconn magically grabs the thing and runs into the end zone we lose.

I've got no problem with securing the ball.

There is always something that COULD go wrong in that situation if we bobble it scooping it up. It gets away and Uconn gets it and somehow advances it to the endzone. Or we inadvertently commit a penalty making it a redo.

It looks like Ashford was initially trying to pick it up and go the other way. And then at the last second the ball takes a funny bounce behind him and he realizes he just needs to fall on it.
