Which would you prefer?

Post by SuperiorBlueDiver » November 24th, 2015, 9:20 am

If we were guaranteed to win one game and lose the other which one would you rather win?

11/28 football vs. BYU

Or

11/29 basketball @ Duke

Duke! That win would provide higher Aggie upside.

Duke! A win like that comes once in a lifetime. Plus think of the exposure.

Duke. Nobody else in the nation cares if we beat byu on Saturday or not, but if Utah State went in to Duke and won that would turn a lot of heads.

Duke. No question. Getting a win in Cameron Indoor against the 6th best team in the country would be the biggest win in school history.

If it was a choice between getting a top 5 win in football or a top 5 win in basketball then that would be easier to say but right now we are bowl eligible in a season where we aren't going to the CCG. Beating BYU is nice but a beating one of the most storied programs in the country in basketball would give USU more exposure.

I don't disagree with any of that.

A win at Duke puts us on the National map. A home win against BYU puts us on the Utah map, with the SLC media still making excuses and belittling us. A win at Duke would draw nothing but respect. We can beat BYU next year. We may never play Duke again. Duke basketball is a perennial top 10 program. BYU football is not. A road win in Cameron Indoor would be the equivalent of 10 consecutive football wins in LES. Hands down, Duke.

beat ybu. We beat them we go bowling! We could beat Duke but not even make it into any post season tourney. Sure that win would be huge, but it would fade by the end of the season. We got to keep FB moving forward!

Exactly this. I documented earlier in the year the scenarios which I would consider one more valuable than another. Given that we are bowl eligible but no chance for a NY6 game the game against Duke takes on much higher reward with a win.

Duke without question. That would be a signature win for our program. BYU would be viewed as a good win but but not signature. Beating Duke could help our coaches with recruiting as well and continue the momentum they are building with recruits for next year. It would also be a confidence booster for this team. I would expect our football team already knows and expects we can beat BYU (especially at home).

BYU -- hand's down. First of all, football drives the bus -- not basketball. Second, I don't know many Duke fans I could laud a USU victory over. But I can swing a cat and hit a dozen BYU fans that I would LOVE to irritate about a USU win. Third, a 7th win would absolutely cement a bowl bid for the Aggies and also wash away some of the disappointment of the last 3 weeks. Fourth, while I would really like to see a win against Duke, nothing quite gives me joy like a USU win over our "non-rival".

If I was attending the Duke game, then I'd say Duke, but I"m not. So I'll see us win on Saturday instead

byu. As of now the only thing that matters is in-state perception. Football and the recruiting that comes with it, is a year round process and we would greatly benefit from the boost in excitement that a win would bring us. A win over Duke, as awesome as that would be, will likely be totally forgotten about by March unless we have a much better season than we all are anticipating.

Football is the window to the school!!!!!!!!!!! A Duke win would be in the mix for a few days to a couple of weeks and then it's moldy basketball irrelevance, ... Football is the train to the promised land.

Duke win. Because while I agree football is the train I don't think BYU lies on the track that takes the train to the promised land.

Duke. Bball could really benefit from a signature win right now. It would be a huge upset that we could use in recruiting for a long long time. We should beat BYU on Saturday and if we do it won't be that big of deal. Been there done that. It won't benefit recruiting like beating Duke would.

Duke.

BYU is fun for the fans but it means nothing. We don't recruit the same kids, it is not a conference games, and it means nothing nationally.

Actually... BYU

If we lose to Duke, no big deal. Everyone expects that. As long as we play them closely I'm happy. I'd LOVE a win, but I won't give it a second thought if we lose.
If we lose to BYU, this board (and many Aggie fans) will go critical mass. That's a game at home, against a team that is totally beatable for us, and in what is Chuckie's last home game. It means something for recruiting, for morale and for making in-laws and casual acquaintances STFU. We need to win that game.

BYU. Although, some are saying that a win against Duke would be forgotten soon, and I totally disagree with this. A win at Duke could mean the difference between going dancing and not. In March, the talking heads at ESPN will be talking about bubble teams, and I think we will be one of them. If we are, ESPN will show a list of our quality wins and our non-quality losses. So a win at Duke, even though it's early in the season, would be huge for a basketball program trying to set new standards and create a new identity. That being said, I don't hate any sports team more than I hate BYU football, although their basketball team is a close second. And I don't hate any fan-base as much as I hate BYU's, and there is no close second place. I would love to have this win to hang over the heads of BYU fans, and I would hate to have them hold a loss over my head. Plus, I think a win against them would cement this in their minds as a rivalry, and it would strengthen our in-state recruiting.
So even though I totally get that a win at Duke would be huge, I gotta take a win against BYU if I have to chose between the two.
