Seeing on Twitter that they mutually agreed to waive all remaining compensation. If true, WOW...must have had causeProvoAggie wrote:Didn't even wait until the end of the year.

What blows my mind is the money Gary left on the table. His contract was through 2021 and he agreed to basically rip it up. Is there something more to this? When was the last time a coach did this without an investigation or a better job lined up.ProvoAggie wrote:Didn't even wait until the end of the year.

I hope Hartwell has Matt Wells in his office right now asking him how the position of Vice President and coach of the USU recreational golf club sounds for the next year and a half. I hear it pays almost a million a year.bpd wrote:Bring Gary back. Yes, you can go home again. What we have is not working.
No clue, but UTEP coach Sean Kugler did similar and just up and quit last week, waiving whatever contractual obligation there was to pay him the remainder.hickaggie wrote:What blows my mind is the money Gary left on the table. Yeah, but he could have done that pretty much on OSU's dime. Is he gonna donate his salary too?TheConspirator wrote:Gary is always thinking one step ahead like a carpenter...who makes stairs. He undoubtedly has a plan. My hope is that he was contacted after that embarrassing outing Saturday against CSU and the plan is for him to come take over for Wells.
Well, unless he asked to have his name removed, GA is, technically, LDS.Postiez wrote:BYU?hickaggie wrote:What blows my mind is the money Gary left on the table. That's what I was thinking. Maybe that money he left on the table to walk away was the price of preserving his physical and mental well-being.bluegrouse wrote:I wonder if his health is okay. He had to be under enormous pressure and we know how that took a toll on him here. I don’t know if health reasons would terminate a contract if he was unable to continue.
In any case, I wish him and his family the very best.
Maybe he'll offer the job to Tim Duryea.Yossarian wrote:ProvoAggie wrote:Didn't even wait until the end of the year.

We all know how those Scott Barnes "national searches" turn out.
I wonder if Gary came to him? I mean who the hell waives 11.6 million when told they are being reassigned to quality control in the golf course industry.Aglicious wrote:BTW, can you imagine the awkwardness of that meeting with Scott Barnes? Barnes probably hid behind the pressure of boosters and school presidency wanting him to take action.
At least he had the balls to do it though. Mr. Hartwell? paging Mr. Hartwell....
To be honest, we're not in as bad a place as OSU. I can't see a mid year firing of Matt Wells after a 3-3 start with a win against BYU. I hope we see it if we end up below .500, though.Aglicious wrote:BTW, can you imagine the awkwardness of that meeting with Scott Barnes? Completely different situations. It's harder to bring up a program in the PAC 12 than it is the wac or MWC. Gary can coach. He can recruit Utah. We need that here. Business is business and we need someone line Gary. Gary is available- we should jump on it. Hire Gary, let Wells go. The players don't like him and that's a good enough reason for me. We stink right now anyway. Very little downside with huge potential for benefits.Aglicious wrote:Hahaha...now let all the speculation and rumors fly!!
Anyone actually watch GA coach since he's been at OSU? He is a beaten man, the whole HC thing is just not jiving well with him anymore. I think he needs to take a step back as a coordinator and relieve himself of the duties and pressure that come with the HC position for a while. Maybe even take a break from coaching all together.
I'd be on board with letting him be a special consultant to the defense but that is about the extent I would ever want to see his involvement with USU ever again.
You have to be more than just LDS on paper. You have to hold a current temple recommend.LKGates wrote:Well, unless he asked to have his name removed, GA is, technically, LDS.Postiez wrote:BYU?hickaggie wrote:What blows my mind is the money Gary left on the table. Yes we are. We have no FBS lineman and a QB who would get schooled in my low level recreational semi-pro league who is apparently the best on the team. Yes, they might get 6 wins including 2 against sub 150 schools and 4 more against sub 100 but they are done for and its not gonna change with a Wells extension.AggieDude wrote:To be honest, we're not in as bad a place as OSU. I wonder if it was about the Mighty Dollar when he left us. He must have been excited to teach at Wiscy.Aglicious wrote:https://twitter.com/slmandel/status/917462556595195904
That's the kind of decision people make with a gun to their head. Just saying. I know Gary's well off but 11.6 million is still 11.6 million (or at least 6 after taxes).Aglicious wrote:https://twitter.com/slmandel/status/917462556595195904
There's Baldwin, Clune, McGiven, Rushing, kauhahaha, and Woods the job could be given to.LKGates wrote:Maybe he'll offer the job to Tim Duryea.Yossarian wrote:ProvoAggie wrote:Didn't even wait until the end of the year.

Then leave suddenly.

If this is true, my respect for the guy just skyrocketed and it was pretty damn high to begin with.Aglicious wrote:https://twitter.com/slmandel/status/917462556595195904
