Well, gotta say I'm not terribly impressed by Tahi based on that tweet alone.

What did Wells say that set him off?

I've got no real information on that, but from reading the tweet I got the impression that Tahi just doesn't like Wells, but Wells invoked Tahi's name for something or other.

We can rip on Tahi here, but this is just yet another source talking about how fake Wells is and that players don't like him. We've heard this from quite a few different avenues now.

Yikes.

And as far as Wells goes there is likely some truth to it. But I will reserve judgement from this. I'm sure most of us have offended someone and out of anger that person says a lot of unfair things or we've been that person that is offended.

Tahi is gonna wish he didn't post that. Not good for him. He won't get another job in coaching. Im not sure if he is still on staff or is looking for something else but he was not smart in this.

Offended source that is probably over exaggerating out of anger.

I guess I’m out of the loop, who is Tahi? And is the big comment something he said to wells or wells said to him?

He used to play for BYU and then in the NFL. He was on our coaching staff in 2016 and 2017 as an Offensive Administrative Assistant. He's gone from the roster this year.

Yeah, just reading the post was painful based on grammar alone. I don't expect all the players to like Wells. I think it's a bonus to have a likeable coach a la GA, and probably Smith in basketball, but Duryea was also likeable, I think. As long as Wells wins, I don't care that college football players whine about "only" receiving a thousand bucks a month (which is what I was making working in a grocery store 30 hours a week during college) to pursue something they enjoy and get a free education. JFW, am I right?

Except he wasn't a player. He was a coach. I don't know how a coach was only making $1000/month.

Classy considering Wells is dealing with his father's passing this week.

I think he was a graduate assistant. Tahi blew up byu also just before he came to USU. Appears the guy gets his buttons pushed easily.

Tahi played in the NFL is 36 and still the lowest person on a MWC staff, maybe you need to look at how well your doing. This isn't going to help your career

No. Not JFW. I agree there's not much relevance on whether players like Wells or not. I don't think Saban is well liked. But "JFW" is such a misnomer.

Winning comes from attention to every minor detail and hard work from the ground up. "JFW"-ing comes from paying attention to every detail and taking care of every minute detail missing nothing. Then the winning takes care of itself. You don't just ignore everything else and then just "JFW".

Also, Tahi was a graduate assistant coach, not a player.

If I'm in my mid-30s with a family to support and the best job I can find in my profession of choice pays $1000/mo., I start to think "maybe this profession isn't for me" and look to move on. I get that people want to follow their "passion" in their career choice, but at some point your "passion" should be looking out for you family's well-being and your personal financial future. A lot of people really like football and are very knowledgeable at the nuances of the game and the strategy involved in preparing for games but they don't see it as a career. Perhaps it's time for Mr. Tahi to move on to something better than a $1000/mo. gig and think more about his family. That's just me, though. Like others have said - this rant isn't going to help him land work in his career field of choice. But, hey, he got it off his chest and he told Matt who was boss.

$1,000 a month for the year or just FB season? If it's for the year, he shouldn't complain. And boy howdy, where did this guy graduate from? Was it really ybu? Would they really allow someone to gradate w/o being able to use the English language properly?

Good riddance!

I'm confused then. He said 4-5 years of his life, so I thought he was talking about when he was in college. Wasn't he only at USU 2 years?

Either way, I'm not opposed to people being paid what they're worth. If he could have made more money elsewhere, he should have. Capitalism.

I agree with what you're saying. But no coach is perfect. If a few players don't like Wells, then whatever, I guess. Obviously it would be ideal that everyone loves him a lot. But if I had to choose between a guy who is well-liked, and a guy who can coach the hell out of players and strategize well, then I'd take the latter. Again, it's ideal to have both, and I would hope Wells is working on both these aspects of his job.

Question: Did he know what his pay was when he hired on? My guess he did, and he agreed to it. So he needs to shut up and move on. If he was any good, I am sure he would be paid more.

If one can graduate from Ybu and make $1000 a month they should be glad an celebrate. Pizza delivery is less pay according to the other Ybu grads I order from.

This reflects much worse on Tahi than it does on Wells.

The only people who aren't shocked at his lack of decorum are those who were already biased against USU. To them it is just confirmation of their already held bias. To everyone else it is about Tahi being a spoiled brat.

Understood and agreed. I also think there are also those who value a coach being liked by his players too highly. It's nice, but not essential. That's not to totally dismiss the value of it either.

What about when a coach has had 2 consecutive losing season AND isn’t liked by his players? Does it have any weight then?

$1000 a month isn’t great if we’re talking about a salary, but was he a coach or a graduate assistant? I currently get a $1000/month stipend on top of full tuition as a graduate assistant and I’m thrilled with it. I wonder if he is taking graduate courses and has a similar arrangement or if he’s only doing the coaching duties

To be fair, my experiences are that those who don’t like him are the ones that aren’t getting playing time (and coaches who got fired). I have to take those opinions with a giant grain of salt. If we start seeing an exodus of key players because they don’t like him....then I will take it as a problem.

Now if you want to talk about his game management skills then you’re on to something.

Tahi was a graduate assistant and not a coach. In other words he was basically a scholarship coach who not only got tuition but $1,000 bucks on top. He knew the drill when he got hired so clearly not a case of Wells cheaping out on the guy.

Now if Wells was bad mouthing him, then that is another story.
