A friend saw Wells all dressed up and flying out of SLC yesterday. Didn’t get to see where his plane was headed :bangwall:

Very well could be a recruiting trip. A lot of the coaches are out recruiting this week.

Looks like he's interviewing to be a pastor somewhere. We'll have to congratulate him when he comes home with a clerical collar to go with that outfit

Yeah, probably recruiting. Should prolly wear a tie if you're gonna interview. Although, the all black would be a good look if you're interviewing at TTU. Do coaches normally wear Aggie gear on a recruiting trip? He isn't.

In short, could be either. Equally likely.

Strange all around. Typically the use of "Air Laub" is made available when Coach Wells and crew are out doing home visits.

He could be flying for a number of reasons, interviewing very well could be one of them. He isn't flying by himself on a commercial flight for a recruiting trip though.

Looks like a bull pin on his lapel.

If someone really wanted him wouldn’t they fly him in on their plane?

Coaches go on recruiting trips solo.

My guess is he’s with Luke, but Luke’s not TSA Pre-checked.

If all the coaches are 'cruitin, maybe they split up and some are on Air Laub and others hit up the old SLC international? It isn't impressive at all that a program with big money can't charter an interview in. We even did it with Smith.

Air Laub went and got Smith and then returned to South Dakota and snagged the rest of the family the next day.

Too bad for Wells, no one informed him that there is no charm or luck left in the black on black mock turtle neck, Larry Eustachy already used the world's supply of both with that look.

BYU made Ken Niumatalolo fly commercial, by driving an hour to the airport there instead of chartering him in.

Why would Wells fly to Provo?

Funny, last year at this time alot of you guys were hoping he would hit the road to interview somewhere else.....now we're on Matt Wells watch, we NEEED to be on OC watch.....

Anyone consider the possibility that he is going to meet with for another coach for us??

I'm not worried about Yost leaving, I just accept that it's going to happen, unless Wells leaves and he is promoted to HC.

He has interviewed for jobs in the past. He is interviewing now and he will interview in the future. Nothing new here.

Coaches are mercenaries. Loyalty to coaches is misplaced, they certainly don’t have loyalty to the schools they coach at. The mighty dollar is the loyalty of most coaches.

Stew was a clear exception, so was LaVell

Maybe schools/coaches are getting smarter about how they handle this given everyone watches flight tracker these days. I'm pretty sure GA met with Wisconsin AD in a MN airport. Maybe GA was just ahead of his time?

Show me a coach with three losing seasons in a row and not have a few disgruntled fans. You guys act like USU fans are somehow different. Coaches face a lot of scrutiny and pressure to win, It’s the nature of the job, and not unique to Aggie fans or this message board. Hell, the fans around me in Boise didn’t really like Harsin.

And I'd stay in Logan for $1.1 million a year, where I graduated, where I've had my most success, and where I can become a legacy. Chasing money is never a great path.

I would see that the $3 million for 5 years is not real -- that unless I win every year and am in the Top 2-3 team of the conference, I will get fired (not after 3 losing years, just 1 losing year). And upon my firing, some of my future earnings will get "negotiated" down, and I will forever again be just a coordinator traveling here and yonder for my pay. I will someday come back to Logan for an alumni event and realize that I made a mistake leaving (as GA has and John L has).

If I truly have built a program that can endure and finish near the top every year like a Boise St., then the job in Logan at $1 million plus is heaven. Now if I'm just a flash in the pan (after 3 losing seasons), by all means I would take the money and run until I get fired at my next job.

To each his own. I suppose my counter point would be your assuming sustained, long term success - which is dangerous, especially at a place like USU. If you have two bad years you are then fired and replaced, and forever again just a coordinator traveling here and yonder for your pay - but with far less money in the bank because you never took that big payday when you had the chance.

To be fair, this isn't a criticism, I admire your loyalty in this scenario, just pointing out that even being loyal doesn't always end well.

It worked out just fine for Stew and LaVell, even though both in the twilight of their careers dropped in their efforts and successes. LaVell has a stadium named after him, and someday Stew will have a court named after him. But you have to believe you've build something sustainable -- I think that's Wells real problem; Has He?
