This must mean Sanford is on the way. GA said in his presser that the coordinators would have a say in their staff.

Boom! Awesome hire! Players seemed to really like Woods and his Oline groups always performed.

‪Utah State allowed 9 sacks in 2018 (64 yards lost)‬
‪WKU allowed 32 sacks in 2018 (196 yards lost) ‬

What’s so great about this guy?

This could be multiple factors, experience, how they play (tempo) etc. But I see your point

You should have seen what they allowed the year before Woods got there. He was just there a year btw.

From the article linked above:

WKU’s offensive line made vast improvements from 2017 to 2018 under Woods, who replaced Geoff Dartt as the unit’s coach.

The Toppers allowed 2.67 sacks per game in 2018 after allowing 3.69 per game the year before. They also improved in yards per carry (2.02 to 3.74), rushing yards per game (60.85 to 136.83) and tackles for loss allowed per game (7.77 to 6.08).

GA indicated in his radio interview with Hans and Scotty that part of his leaving the $12 million on the table was making sure his assistants were taken care of. I'm sure that helped heal any wounds.

Maybe the fact that our line was great when he was here in his first stint. And the fact is, we weren't keeping Farmer.

Yes! I didn’t think about comparing their 2017 with their 2018. Good point!

I’m guessing our line was bigger, faster, stronger. Also we ran the ball with backups in quite a few second halves. That helps in numerous ways. (Fatigue/chance to give up sacks etc)

One hell of an O-line coach. Thrilled he is coming this way! Had multiple offers at P5 programs before he went with Gary to Wisconsin.

Of all the potential Andersen coaching re-treads (Aranda wasn't going to happen), this is the best. TJ is a great O-line coach.

We could but he's the highest paid assistant in D1, so unless he absolutely loved Cache Valley or Gary then the odds of this happening are approximately .0000000000000000001%

TJ Wood is a hell of a coach. One of the best position coaches out there. This a great news to have him back on the staff. Like idaggie mentioned, he had multiple P5 offers when GA left for UW. But Woods loves GA and wanted to be on his staff. Awesome, awesome news!

I also seem to remember seeing that he had quite a large buyout unless he was taking a head coaching job.

When he was here we had the most physical and disciplined run game we've had. As far as pass blocking we always had a really mobile guy back there so its hard to say.

I'd rather have someone that understands the pocket like JL. Sometimes when you get a "mobile" QB, they run right into the edge rush.

I think this might be over simplifying it. Our offense frequently featured plays where the ball came out in under a second. That combined with the fact that we had some very good blocking RBs means fewer sacks. Love also has very good pocket presence and would frequently step out of pressure.

Very true. My point was only that between Chuckie and Borel that they probably made the O-line look better than they may have been on occasion as both of them had elite type mobility in the pocket.

Another thing that makes O-lines look good is an immobile QB who gets rid of the ball quickly. Love does this. It's hard to get to the QB when he throws the ball before the count of 3.

I agree 100%. I was only pointing out that I really liked Woods O-lines here but that its possible that the QBs made them look even better than they were as pass blockers. Love does the exact same thing with his quick decisions and releases. I don't think the O-line is going to take a step back at all from a coaching standpoint although they are replacing some studs.
