Travel plans for 2019 away games

Beginning my early planning to attend one of our games back east. My original thought was to go to SEC country and visit New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Has anyone attended a game in Tiger Stadium?

Other options I'm considering are the Wake Forest or possibly staying closer and heading to San Diego. Any thoughts?

I'm thinking about going to the LSU game too. Never been to a "big time" college football stadium so that seems to be the only option on the schedule that would accomplish that.

SDSU will be my home game. I'd love to return to NO for the LSU game in the Superdome!

I am planning on going to the LSU game with my son.

I may be going to the LSU game. No, we play them @ Tiger Stadium....not the superdome in NO. But I wish!

My wife and I will be at the Wake Forest game for sure. More likely than not that we also make it to the LSU game.

I may make a trip for the LSU game as well. My brother lives in Clinton and offered to let me stay there.

New Orleans is one of my favorite cities. I'd be tempted to go to the LSU game so I could justify a side trip to the Big Easy. A perfect night is dinner at the Gumbo Shop, just to the side of the cathedral on Jackson Square. Then, a stroll across the square for beignets at Café du Monde. Finally, a leisurely walk on the Moon Walk to Preservation Hall, sit on the floor and listen to the best jazz ever.

Winston-Salem is also beautiful, and the Wake Forest campus is gorgeous. I once interviewed for a faculty job there. Really, I'd go to either place in a heartbeat.

The YoungBlood clan will be in New Orleans and then Baton Rouge for the game against LSU. They are only 1.5 hours apart and I've never been to either so I'm looking forward to it.

Other potentials for me include UNM (probably not though), SDSU, AFA (assuming it is not the weekend of Thanksgiving), and Wake Forest.

I'll be at the WF game. Potentially with my brood of belligerent little Aggies.

We went to the WF game in 2017. It was fun, but less of a big-time game atmosphere. I'm hoping to make it to the LSU game to see the boys and experience an SEC game atmosphere.

What about OldBlood? He needs to come too, along with AgMac, AgMac Sr, 918AGG, and anyone else off the tree.

The Gumbo Shop is fantastic! I was just there last month. Great food.

I booked hotels in both Baton Rouge and Winston-Salem when the schedule came out. Not sure I'll actually make it to either game, but would really like to go to both. If I have to choose one, it will be LSU. One of my sisters used to live in NOLA, and I love that city. Plan to get back down to Mardi Gras this year as well. On a guys trip a year ago, my buddies and I went to Jazz Fest and rented a "party bus" to go up to an LSU baseball game. The friend who organized the trip managed to secure a tour of the LSU athletic facilities while we were there. EXTREMELY impressive. I also managed to get a private tour of the new Vikings training facilities in Eagan, MN during training camp this past year, and LSU's facilities were nearly as impressive. Must be nice to have annual athletic revenues in the $150M range.

MiddleAgedBlood (but getting to be OldBlood) is very interested in the LSU game. I think depending on the time of year, he could also be convinced to do AFA. SDSU could be the easiest of all, if we can schedule a Disneyland trip around it. Wake Forest is probably a no.

I suspect any game that MiddleAgedBlood attends, we could convince the rest of the tree to attend.

I won't be able to pull off a long distance trip next year, but I could maybe justify the AF game along with a visit to my sister in Colorado Springs.

I'm excited for LSU! This will make the 5th money game that I'll be able to attend. It'll be interesting to see where the LSU gameday scene ranks among the other 4: Tennessee > A&M > OU > Wisconsin >>> CSU Homecoming 2016 > AFA >>> New Mexico Bowl 2018 >> CSU 2018

Money games I've attended (ranked by favorite atmosphere to least favorite)

Auburn > Tennessee > Washington > Wisconsin > Michigan State > USC > Wake Forest (ok not really a money game... but still)

I'm guessing LSU will be top 3.

Surprised you put Washington ahead of Wisconsin and even Michigan st. Unless tailgating was better.
And LSU will easily be top 3. Nothing like the sec.

I did the Sailgate at Washington. The stadium is incredibly beautiful on the Water. That's why I ranked them so high.

Wiscy would've been higher but their fans were kind of dicks.

Auburn = far and away best and most hospitable fans / tailgate / live flying eagle / chuckie's coming out party / National Championship Trophy brought out at halftime / cool statues and tributes to some of my favorite players (Frank Thomas / Bo Jackson / Sir Charles) / Cool traditions after the game etc.

Tennessee = Insane tailgate / whole campus buy-in / cool location on the river / some fans hospitable others dicks / incredibly impressive stadium

Washington = awesome Sailgate experience / incredibly beautiful stadium on the water. Didn't interact much with the fans that game.

Wiscy = Awesome stadium and tailgate / Cool Jump Around tradition / fans were mostly dicks.

Michigan state = very impressive stadium / good tailgate but not to the Tennessee or Auburn standard

USC = Stadium with lots of tradition but it's pretty much a dump / Good tailgating and fan support / Fans were OK.

Wake Forest = Beautiful Campus and Stadium / Smaller scale than the others / Football tradition nowhere near the others.

For me this is how I rank money games I attended.

Texas A&M- awesome atmosphere, fans were great.
Oklahoma
Michigan State- great game that we could have won.
Washington- prettiest setting in football in my opinion.
USC
Tennessee- fans were not that hospitable and hearing rocky top 45 times during the game was unbearable.
Wisconsin- awesome atmosphere, but there fans were douches.
Wake Forest- Not a money game, but it was a fun trip. The game was terrible though.

I would really love to see aggies schedule a money game with Oregon. I would love to attend a game at Autzen Stadium.

Here is a decent flight deal for the Wake Forest game that popped up today.

Round trip Salt Lake to Columbia, South Carolina (3 hour drive from Wake Forest)
Leaving Tuesday (8/27) and returning Saturday (8/31)
$255 on American
$258 on Delta

https://www.google.com/flights?hl=en#fl ... 1;sd:1;t:f

Trying to decide if I should hold out for something cheaper/closer to Wake Forest...

Working on the missus to do LSU as our 15th-anniversary trip. We've always wanted to spend some time in the Big Easy.
