Thompson left early because he lost his entire offensive line. Even if he improved this year last years stats would look more impressive. This is really his only shot at the NFL.
Nope...

Lazy.

If DT gets drafted and makes it on a team, makes 480k for a couple years, yes he made the right choice.

If DT doesn’t get drafted, doesn’t make a roster, and bounces around a couple practice squads, (does he still make 480k as a practice squad player?), then I don’t think he made the right decision.

My “hesitation” is based on some projections showing him not getting drafted at all. I have no idea if those projections are accurate.
If he makes a team, right choice, if he doesn't, wrong choice? Don't stick your neck out like that!
Again with the lazy take. That’s not what I said at all and you know. Sorry you’re not capable of nuance.

My guess is Darwin goes in the 5-6 round and Dax is undrafted. I'm often wrong. TE's are great offensive weapons so all it takes is one team to remember Chris Cooley went to USU and Dax could go off the board

We're almost into the 7th round. At this point I hope they both get free agent offers, instead. They will be able to pick teams that may work better for them, rather than get stuck with somebody who doesn't really want them that bad.

Is it too late for Thompson to return to school?

Either one could have been a 7th rounder or FA signee after their Sr. season and been sitting in the same seat as they are right now. Yes, they would be 1 year older in next year's draft but being a year younger didn't pay off for them this year so it's hard to argue that they made the right choice to leave as underclassmen.

ESPN just mentioned that 40% of underclassmen that put their name in don't get drafted and over 60% of them are out of the league after 3 years.

I really thought Dallas would pick up Raymond but they have passed numerous times now.

Dax is now the highest rated TE left half way through the last round.

Congrats DT - I posted back at the time of the combine noting DT was the buzz even though he was not an invite. I respectfully disagree with Coach Sanford - DT believe me was on the radar a not so well kept secret - the NFL scouts I talked to could not believe he was not a combine invite but solidified his status at Pro Day. He is a gamer with talent and surprisingly KC took him over Mike Weber of Ohio State a phenomenal back who got picked up by Dallas. The main reservation has been not height but the fact that he had no major offers out of high school and essentially has played only 1 year of DI ball. True to my past combine post and unfortunately so Dax had a poor combine which hurt him even though his showing at Pro Day was better. Not much left in the 7th round so he has fallen from original projections. Hope there will be a taker but from what I am told probably not. I hope he gets a camp invite because I think he can scratch and claw his way onto a roster...the knock according folks I talked to last night is he just too unimpressive physically not athletically but physically...big enough size wise but not strong or tough enough for the position. I do not agree but that is the take scouts have on him. If anyone got bad advice to leave early its Dax not DT. He could have spent this year benefitting from Coach A and better strength training.

Dallas passes on Dax with there last pick....doubt he gets drafted now. Although, Saints, Patriots, and Redskins still need a TE.

Mr. Irrelevant went to Caleb Wilson, TE out of UCLA. He was just above Dax. Without Wilson, Dax would have been picked as the last pick!

Dax's combine numbers must have hurt him.

It is probably better to go undrafted than be a seventh round pick. At least you get to pick from a handful of camp invites and set yourself up in a more favorable environment.

While this is true. Most players would rather be drafted in the 7th. Its a ego hit to go undrafted.

We had the same number of players drafted as SJSU, and theirs went much earlier. Hawaii had two players drafted, both going before Darwin. This whole draft thing is funny sometimes.

BYU-Provo out of West Coast Conference even had a higher pick than us.

Raymond signed with the Chicago Bears. The Bears need to 1 on their roster. He'll probably make it.

And we crushed the BYU Tigers. It tends to runs in cycles for most g5 schools. I will take an 11-2 seasonwent any day over having a higher draft pick. This year we played mostly underclassman. Next year will be a different story. Hopefully after 2020 the trend will continue. Go Aggies!

Dax picked a bad year to come out. The draft was loaded with TE prospects and he got caught in a bad numbers game. Even SJSU had a tight end drafted.

Congrats to Thompson, I think he will make it in KC.

It’s not necessarily any indictment on Dax. Teams pick where they think other teams will pick a guy- not necessarily where they value him.

If I think a guy is good enough for Rd. 3 talent wise but everyone else thinks he’s round 6 or UFA: I just received a massive discount and can take him in rd. 6...

An older player waiting a year isn’t always a good thing- and it certainly isn’t the difference between undrafted FA vs Rd 4...

Dax proved himself on the field but not at the combine. Hopefully he can continue to prove himself on the field- because that is all that counts from here on out.
