I had been to others, but the 1982 game vs yBu. Paul Jones caught a pass over the middle, and outran everyone, (maybe 75 yds?) to put us up by 10. Steve Young threw a TD late, but not enough!
I was at that game. Huge win for a young USU fan who was at the game two years earlier when BYU-P crushed us 70-46. Quite the high scoring affair, with Jim McMahon connecting on something like a 75-yard TD pass on the first play of the game.

1967, last season for "old" Romney Stadium where the new Wellness Center and HPER are. USU beat Pacific 7-6 in the homecoming game. I saw Mike O'Shea make an overhead one handed catch on a pass thrown by John Pappas. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. The cheerleaders threw little rubber footballs into the stands and I caught one. Thought I was hot stuff.

I believe it was the last game played in the Old stadium we beat YBU in front of 15,000 people. I believe that was 1967.
Actually, USU beat Montana in the last game played in old Romney, November 11, 1967, before a crowd of about 16,500.

Considering, A - the population growth of Cache Valley since 1967, and B - the quality of the team and the opponents, we ought to be able to put twice that many in the stands consistently. Heck, we ought to be able to put three times that many in. :disappointed:

1992 vs BYU. Loved Aggies ever since. Didn't even consider going to another college. Good thing they're not very selective!

I just remember going to a game against SJSU as my earliest football memory. Probably was around 1991. My Dad took me to basketball games when I was in 1st grade though so it’s possible I went to a football game prior to that.

I missed the earlier games that season because they always seemed to coincide with the 120-lb WFFL games. Loved the cold weather games, sitting with the Coach about 8 rows back on the north 45-yard-line in Romney Parte Deux when they started. My oldest brother had backed up Pappas on the frosh team a couple years earlier. Everybody knew he was going to be spectacular.

The first I can recall attending was against the Utes in '86 in a loss. I'd been to a few before that, but that's the first I remember. For basketball, the first I specifically remember was the '87-88 season against UCSB. I'd attended previous games that year and in prior years (I remember seeing Greg Grant and Vince Washington play).

Also against the Utes in 1986. Cold game and my family took every coat and blanket in the house.

First football game I attended was a November home game against Weber State in 2001. I was in middle school and had a friend with a relative on the team. My main memories:

-Thinking it was weird Weber was able to keep the game close.
-Kevin Curtis went crazy and seemed to catch everything thrown to him (10 receptions for 252 yards, 3 TDs).
-The weather was incredible and we played catch on the grass in the southwest corner of the stadium.
-Going on the field after the game and meeting Emmett White. Super nice guy - he was huge! Looking at the stats he also had a big game (38 attempts for 233 yards, 3 TDs).

Final score was 56-43 Aggies.

First time I remember USU making any kind of impression was a game against BYU in the mid- to late-90's. On a kick return some USU player made a monster block.

Started attending USU in 1999. I don't remember if I ever actually made it out to a game that year (for shame!). I do remember sitting in the Jones Hall rec room watching a game screaming "Today, Crosbie! Today!" (Short Circuit reference), as our QB was certainly performing poorly.

First game that I for sure remember attending in person was that heart-breaker against BYU in 2002. I may have caught a game or two earlier that season.

I did not really become fully and truly committed as both an Aggie fan and a football fan until the Brent Guy years. Which is pretty ironic. 'Aint nobody callin' me a fair-weather fan!

Well, Bluegrouse, I am actually older than dirt as, in my youth, I watched the earth cool My first solid and complete game recollection was against Texas Western (now UTEP). IIRC it ended up 21-7 or even 21-0 for our AGGIES and I watched Clark Miller jog up the steps to the press box for a post game interview. As a youngster I was on the sidelines with my dad who kept time for the USU home football games.

That’s awesome. As a kid, I often used to hold the tape (a roll of medical gauze) at indoor and outdoor Aggie track events because my dad was a timer. Ralph Maughan (the legendary track coach) lived in my LDS ward and a handful of the men in our ward were volunteer timers (Ross Peterson, Reed Merrill - Sam’s grandpa, Ray Miller, Ross Smart, Vern Budge among others). My favorite memories are watching Mark Enyeart run the 400 and 800. He was the NCAA champion in the 800 in 1975 and 1977 and was ranked 4th in the world. He competed in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. I would have been 10-12 years old during Enyeart’s time and loved goofing around on the pole vault mats after the events were over. Hard to believe a 12 year old kid got to hold the tape for a collegiate event and everything was hand-timed with stop watches.......

Haha i see this thread is just an elaborate ploy to find out how old were all are. Well my grandma used to have seats on the 50 yard line in the 90s. Back then I didn't really know how football was played. I just knew the guys in the blue jerseys needed to get the ball to the end zone. I have no idea what the first game was I went to. The first game I really remember though was vs Utah in 97. I actually paid more attention to USU after that game. The next time I seen Utah play in Logan was 2012... Good times

I was in the Huddle Club as a small child and would go through the helmet cut out that was for club members in the old Romney Stadium. I don't remember a 1st game specifically, but the first player I remember was Altie Taylor.

With my grandfather circa 1950 at old Romney Stadium. Coach was John Ronning (our near by neighbor, he lived on Center street near 2nd west in the Cardon home). Kent Ryan (my hero #11) was quarterback. I believe they played Denver, but not certain. I thought their shoulder pads were real muscles.

I remember that game. One, it always stood out how much bigger their lineman were than ours, two, Detmer impressed me and three, one of their receivers, maybe Bellini, whined afterward about late hits and it just cemented how much I couldn't stand them.

First one I can remember I was like 9 and we got pounded by North Texas.

Next game I went to was the 35-34 game against BYU where we were literally up 34-0 at halftime.

My first game was when my dad took me to the Fresno St game in 1991 when we beat a ranked Bulldogs team at the end of the game on a field goal I believe. I'd been to a lot of basketball games before that as my grandparents had season tickets so I was already a big Aggie fan. But this was my first football game and we went to a lot more of them after the amazing experience of that Fresno game...other than it being so cold. I remember both the win and the excitement and how freezing cold I was.

Kansas State has visited Logan twice. In 1970 Kansas State beat USU 37-0. In 1992 USU beat Kansas State 28-16.

Kent State visited Logan once, in 1973, and beat USU 27-16.

I was part of the Huddle Club and I think it was Cal State Fullerton in 1989. There have been a lot of fun Aggie games since, win or lose. I like the recent winning better though.

Uh I got distracted when posting this, I was gonna put KS lost, then someone walked in the office and ya, I did mean that USU won by 10 or 14, or by your numbers, 12.

I'm sure I saw a game or two before on TV, but the first one I remember is the first one I went to as an Aggie.

It was BYU @ USU in 2008. BYU was ranked something like #10 and had just shut out two teams, including UCLA or some PAC-10 team like 60-0. In contrast, USU was awful. It was Brent Guy's last year. I think they were 0-4. People were like "Yeah, if we lose by less than 60 it'll be a win." I wasn't much of an Aggie fan at the time, but all of my roommates were going so I tagged along.

By the end of the 1st it was 24-0 and all us (I can't express myself without swearing)-casual fans were taking bets on how much the Zoobs would score, but not a core group of people down the row from us. They were still all in at 100% for USU. It was surprisingly infectious. As the half went on it seemed to inspire USU's defense who began to hold. By the 4th quarter we were down 34-0. Then USU's offense made a few plays and suddenly it was 34-7. The crowd, especially these core supporters, went nucking futs. It was awesome. I was thrilled to see this. Then we scored again and it was 34-14. We all knew it was meaningless and that the game was over, but every Aggie fan and player left Romney Stadium with pride that night.

It was crazy walking back to my apartment seeing all the Aggie fans high five while the Boogar fans were clearly distraught. They just beat us by 20, but USU fans were like ... :scotsman:  :scotsman: ...

It would be two years before they came back and I got to watch the tables turn as USU got out to a 24-0 lead and won 31-16, but the 20 point loss to a juggernaut that I grew up hating (Ute household) was awesome. It really set the tone for Aggie sports for me and I became part of that core group of crazies - showing up 2+ hours early and well ... here I am on USUFans 11 years later.

My Pop took me to my first Aggie Football game in Logan at the Old Romney Stadium . It was 1960. I was 6 years old. We creamed BYU 34 to 0...! It was the Halloween game that year 10/29/1960.

The only thing I remember about the game was that I got lost and then I decided I better try to get to our car in the Parking lot. I made it to the car and I waited and waited for my Dad. He, in the meantime was looking all over for me not knowing I had gone to the car. He finally came to the car and was really pissed at me for leaving the stadium!
Remember folks I was only 6 years old! Never did have an issue with pop or us going to games ever again, I learned my lesson! Stay with pop don’t take off.

All 4 games at home that season? Yipeee. I was there, too; plus I went down to the pukie game.

Season started great with league wins over Long Beach on the road and San Jose at home, with a loss at Iowa St sandwiched in between. Then two league road losses to Pacific (embarrassing) and Vegas (humiliating), and the league season was over a week later with a home squeaker loss at the hands of Fullerton (excruciating). Home losses to Fresno and the stench ended up the home stretch. Oh, those were the bad old days. Tom Ponich was still on the roster. Yikes.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Yep, this was in ‘90. Same game where Roger Grant broke the record for rushing yds in a single game which stood until Emmett. That was a fun game.

First game I remember attending was the 44-0 loss to BYU in a whiteout. I remember sitting on the east side with an umbrella in my face to protect me from the snow and wind... could barely see the field at all. Went home at halftime.
