It took the GA hire to offer Hunter Hill and Cooper Legas. I don’t think Wells prioritized the top Utah recruits and conceded them to the teams down south.QuackAttackAggie wrote:now that you say this, i remember wondering why we didn't offer him in recruiting because he was so spectacular in high school. even with a roster full of RBs, i thought he'd be a great get.

Re: 1280: 60 in 60
This is true. Had it not been for Coach Andersen and his staff making Coop and Hunter priorities, Hunter would be a USC Trojan and Coop would likely be an Arkansas Razorback. We currently have committable offers out to 9 of the top 10 prospects in Utah. If I had to venture a guess, I would say 5 of the top 10 will go to bigger schools outside of the State of Utah.Full wrote: ↑July 9th, 2019, 9:19 amIt took the GA hire to offer Hunter Hill and Cooper Legas. Wells did not do the best job of recruiting Utah especially skill positions in the state. I realize the state is not flush with great skill position players, but you have to make an effort. There is no reason Cooper and Hunter should not have been offered a year earlier.

This one is laughable(and Scotty G agreed on air). Guarantee he's top 20 when they do the end of year re-rank. #1 returning receiver on Utah State with Jordan love throwing to him. Ridiculous.
Interesting though he is the first Utah State guy ranked better than his fan vote rank.

Jordan will have a much bigger year in 2019 now that he doesn't have to share reps with Aaren Vaughns and DJ Nelson.taniataylor wrote: ↑July 9th, 2019, 2:11 pmaceofspadeskb wrote: ↑July 9th, 2019, 1:42 pmThis one is laughable(and Scotty G agreed on air). Tofu, kale & goat cheese on quinoa toast with apple slices and honey. I once ran over somebody who tried to convince me to eat one.

An interesting exercise to see what Utah’s all American kicker was ranked the last year he was at Utah.

Matt Gay was ranked #8 last year. He was a "Consensus All-American" in 2017.

There must be some kind of mistake. Clearly he is better than David Woodward. They did get Anderson's position change correct though.

If it’s close the BYU-P player wins for Hans. He’s got to help energize the cougars in the preseason, because all they have left is preseason hype. I would pump BYU-P if my pay increased if I encouraged their irrational optimism.slcagg wrote:Oh the guy who Hans says is a better player than tipa?

Here are the players' side-by-side stats for 2018:
Zayne Anderson | Total tackles: 36 | Solo: 23 | Sacks: 0 | Forced Fumbles: 0 | Interceptions: 1 | YDS: 12
Tipa Galea'i | Total tackles: 64 | Solo: 30 | Sacks: 10.5 | Forced Fumbles: 3 | Interceptions 2 | YDS: 56

Lol, come on. You're using total stats when Zayne Anderson only played in 4 games last year? And if you had no idea he only played 4 games, then how can you even make an argument if he is or isn't better than Galeai when you clearly know nothing about him?travelingagg wrote: ↑July 17th, 2019, 11:45 amDid he really say that? No. However, he studies BYU-P and Utah inside and out and then watches USU (understandable because of his job). He also played for BYU. It’s nothing against him personally, he’s one of the few guys media guys that actually watches USU games. Here Hans talks about how he feels about the losses to USU starting at 10:00.travelingagg wrote:Did he really say that? Listening to the last thee minutes of them talk about the situation BYU-P faces going forward makes me really hope they don’t look at joining a conference. They see being independent and having an ESPN contract as conflicting with reality of the financial commitment to their football program.

Hans listed the top 3 guys in the state per position yesterday in a tweet and then they discussed on the show. Tipa was not listed but that is because Hans thought he was dline. When asked if he was considered a linebacker he said his top 3 would be Woodward, Zayne Anderson and then tipa.

I am not often jealous of BYU in almost any regard, but I am very jealous of BYUSN. I wish we had something even remotely similar. Do we need to build our own studio and run our own TV station? No, but an hour of programming a week on KSL or KUTV would be great.

Re: 1280: 60 in 60
Tipa is the best edge rusher in the State period. He is athletic against the run but he is a finesse guy who needs to operate out of a wider pass rush shade rather than head up or slight outside shade so he's also not a true 4 man DE who can squeeze the run. He's still good against the run though because of his freakish quickness to the backfield and the difficulty getting pads on him.slcagg wrote: ↑July 17th, 2019, 12:32 pmHans listed the top 3 guys in the state per position yesterday in a tweet and then they discussed on the show. We are comparing apples and oranges here. He only dropped into a bit of flat coverage once in a while in the 3 3 5 and the way this hybrid 4-2-5 sounds he will probably do so even less. So if you are grouping true LBs playing off the line with read responsibilities or true lineman with their hand down I understand Hans point.
As far as talent and the impact level of his unique skills at a critical position I think he is a top 5 player in the state at least in terms of his importance to team success.
