The more I look at who we have for this year, the less worried I get about this group. When you have Jordan Love throwing to you, your skills as a WR are more easily showcased. We will see how the depth develops, but the starters are as talented as any group we’ve had in the past five or six years.

I think this is true with most teams in the MW. If we don't have a few playmakers at WR we will struggle against the more athletic secondaries we face: LSU, Wake, Boise, Fresno. Those teams are the ones I really worry if we don't have a few unknowns step up.

As long as one of these guys can step up and be a go to possession receiver (meaning a guy J Love can throw a jump ball to and feel confident that he'll come down with the ball) I think we will be just fine.

Tarver was so good at this last year.

Jalen Greene was a nice big target as well.

Appears to be more athleticism on this team than we've recently enjoyed. I especially like what I've heard about the players on the "O" line being able to step up.

As good as Tarver was, I think Greene was our BDr all around receiver last year.

2019 Utah State Football Preseason Preview: Wide Receiver

Post by AGGIEinIOWA » July 9th, 2019, 2:48 pm

I’m planning on Mariner and Scarver having breakout years. Mariner was set to have one last year and started out gangbusters before an injury set him back. I wish people would get over the Pac12 game debacle. Everyone has plays they wish they could have back. He should be motivated and driven. The kid has serious talent and tools. Same goes for Scarver. He just needs to turn the page from the AF game and ball out. Not many corners in the MW can cover his speed. Jordan Nathan is super solid in the slot too so I think we’ll be well armed with playmakers. We may even have more playmakers at WR this year than last...just hope they all buy in to blocking. I’m excited to see some of the other receivers step up as well.

I have learned that Kyle Van Leeuwen has returned from his mission and will be in fall camp. I have added him to my preview and adjusted the depth charts accordingly.

I did 1 year at Columbia River HS before I moved to Utah (and became a 'Dart'). Cool to see someone from there on our list (Kanen Eaton). It says he's listed as a 24/7 3 star recruit. Why didn't he have more offers, and why is he just a walk-on for us?

The Van Leeuwen pipeline lives on. How many more does the family have to play football at USU?

One more Van Leeuwen, Timmy, is committed to the Aggies and is currently on a mission.

With fall camp roster being released there have been some additions and subtractions. I've made changes to the preview and the depth chart. Please check it out by clicking the original link above!
