Re: Attendance?
Solid. Student and GA sections were pretty full.
Upper East was pretty spotty
Not sure on the west side

22K plus for an FCS opener is pretty good.

Re: Attendance?
It was the kind of attendance that would have been announced at 26,000 twelve years ago, before it was discovered that the stadium isn’t even that large.

Re: Attendance?
All those years we were thinking it was 3X the capacity of the Spectrum only to learn it is just 2X the capacity.

Re: Attendance?
I thought the turnout was great. Better than I expected when compared with previous fcs openers. Attendance should be great the rest of the way with an excellent home slate.

Re: Attendance?
ESPN has attendance listed as 22,247, which I am guessing they got from our SID.
22247/25100 = 88.7%
Not bad for an FCS team that came from across the country. I would guess that SUU or Weber would have been near-sellout attendance. If we win in San Diego in two weeks, we could see a sellout for Homecoming. Win that, and we could easily see a sellout or near-sellout for Nevada.
Then we have BYU, WYO, and Boise to finish. Let's assume sellouts vs BYU and Boise, and a near-sellout for WYO.
If you assume a near-sellout means 23,500-ish tickets sold...that would give us an average attendance of 24,091 for the year. Our best since maybe the sixties?

I thought for an FCS game, coming off a loss the attendance was outstanding.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑September 8th, 2019, 6:08 pmESPN has attendance listed as 22,247, which I am guessing they got from our SID.

Having sat through the New Mexico game last year or some other disappointing turnouts, this was very good.
I agree with YoungBlood above. I could see us selling out the rest of our games and having the best attendance numbers in years.

Re: Attendance?
21,784 in 2001 is the high watermark for football attendance. Prior to 1980 the stadium didn’t seat more than 20,000. I think the new record is set this year.

Re: Attendance?
The stadium has been whatever they said it was, based on the size of the seat allocated. Originally, in 1969, it was 20,000 seats, and then expanded to 30,257 in 1980. But then the NCAA changed what was considered the acceptable size for a seat from 14 inches to 20 inches. When the new measurements were factored in, obviously the capacity of the stadium shrunk. When all of the chairback seats were installed in 1997, that shrank capacity a little further to something like 25,510. So capacity of Romney/Maverik Stadium depends on how much space is allocated for somebody's backside.Right now, they have determined that the stadium capacity is 25,100, more or less.
The record crowd for an Aggie game was 33,000 for BYU in 1996. I was there that night. People were sitting in every possible location where a backside could be accomodated. It was pretty cool to see.
NavyBlueAggie and I measured every inch of Romney/Maverik in 2003. We calculated at the time that the capacity of the stadium was actually closer to 27,000 seats than 25,000. But it doesn't matter right now. We can't fill up the stadium right now no matter what the capacity is, which is truly sad given the quality of the product we're putting on the field. The attendance at the home opener on Saturday was a major disappointment to me. But congratulations to the students who showed up en masse.

Has USU ever drawn more for an FCS game?

Re: Attendance?
The Hurd passed out 5k shirts Saturday. Is student allocation 5k or 6k. First I’ve seen it infer that it’s 8k.oleblu111 wrote:All the seats are now numbered so the actuall capacity is 25,000 and change, actually if you remove the students, we only need around 17,000 for a sellout

Re: Attendance?
I don’t know if Boise St will be a sellout since it’s Thanksgiving weekend. The athletic department should look ahead for that one and see if they can sell tickets in the student section

Oh wow you're right. I just assumed the Thursday before Nov. 30 wouldn't be Thanksgiving but it is this year. Boise St. should sell out then!
