Can't believe they have Nevada going to a Bowl and not us.

Re: Early SI Bowl Projections
LOL, they lost all credibility by having BYU in anything other than the Hawaii Bowl. They are under contract to report to that bowl and that bowl only if bowl eligible unless they are selected to a NY6 bowl (not happening).RigAggie wrote: ↑September 17th, 2019, 3:03 pmSo, notice anyone missing from this picture?? https://www.si.com/college-football/201 ... f-rankings

They show MWC vs. Big Ten for the Armed Forces bowl and then proceed to list BYU. This means either someone at SI hasn't been informed that BYU is not in the MWC anymore or they think the MWC won't somehow be able to fill their bowl slots and BYU will be given release from their Hawaii Bowl obligation?

Re: Early SI Bowl Projections
This early in the season when it comes to rankings and bowl projections, everyone resets to the assumption that all G5 teams are inferior to all P5 teams until further notice. Almost no research is done into the outlook of G5 teams. All they see at Utah State is “G5 with a coaching change” and they think it tells them all they need to know.

Re: Early SI Bowl Projections
Nevada already has 2 wins with SJSU, UTEP, & UNM coming up. They’ll only be looking for 1 more win from the rest of their slate, including UNLV, to become eligible. Frankly, with their schedule this season I’ll be more surprised if they don’t make a bowl.RigAggie wrote:So, notice anyone missing from this picture?? https://www.si.com/college-football/201 ... f-rankings

Agree, but that’s a big IF. Anyone else feel nervous about even being bowl eligible?ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 17th, 2019, 8:16 pmWe’ll show up in everyone’s projections if we beat SDSU and CSU.

Definitely nervous about it. Don’t feel like I’ve seen enough to say definitively either way whether I think we’re a bowl team.Elkaggie wrote: ↑September 17th, 2019, 9:14 pmAgree, but that’s a big IF. Based on the current sample size, I see one guaranteed win (UNM), one should win (CSU), one guaranteed loss (LSU), and then a whole bunch of toss-ups.
That said, I think it’s more likely than not that we are bowl eligible because I think we will beat at least CSU, UNM, Wyoming, and Nevada and at least one of SDSU, Fresno, BSU, BYU, and AFA (of these 5, SDSU or Fresno strikes me as the worst team so far—Fresno’s loss at home to Minnesota was a much worse loss than our loss to Wake). Nothing between 5-7 and 8-4 would shock me too much. SDSU will be a tone-setting game.

Early SI Bowl Projections
I see 1 maybe 2 MW teams being bowl eligible but not get a bowl invite. It will stink if we win 6 or 7 games and get left at home. Currently I see it being Nevada and maybe Wyoming, but Wyoming suffered that fate last year I believe so I doubt they get left out again if they are bowl eligible. We better not lose to either of those two teams if we want to go bowling.

[One thing to keep in my mind is the conference has an agreement that the teams with the best overall record will go to bowls first over a team with a worse record. Case in point last year WYO was 6-6 and Nevada was 7-5. Nevada got the nod because the had the better record even though WYO would have brought twice the fans to the bowl game. I see the same thing this year with several teams qualify for a bowl then what we have bowl slots. I think we will need to be at least 7-5 in order to go to a bowl this year.]

Re: Early SI Bowl Projections
Early season top 25 rankings have very little meaning - but they do have some meaning. Early season bowl projections are meaningless and I don't get why anyone cares.

Re: Early SI Bowl Projections
I like what the San Diego State fans had to say when someone mentioned our only win so far (after too games) was against Stony Brook. Someone pointed out that we scored 62 points against them, and then wondered aloud when was the last time they scored 62 points against anyone. Very telling.
