A few Nevada players of note with Utah connections

Nevada's RB, Toa Taua, is good. We recruited him hard and he almost committed to USU. I still really wish we had landed him. Here is one of the many old threads about him, viewtopic.php?f=4&t=45331&p=508330&hilit=toa#p508179.

Nevada's starting Defensive Tackle, Hausia Sekona, is from East High. (USU never offered him).

Gabe Sewell, is a starting LB for Nevada and is from St. George. (USU never offered him).

Cole Watts, is a 2nd string OL as a freshman from Orem. He was teammates with Cooper Legas and Hunter Hill. (USU never offered him).

Then lastly, he doesn't have a Utah connection but it's worth highlighting again who Nevada's QB is. Malik Henry. He was a star on the popular show "Last Chance U" at Independence CC. He was originally a big time recruit who went to Florida state in 2016. Last week was his first start in Nevada's win over SJSU.

I was at the USU high school camp when Gabe Sewell was in attendance. Although he has turned out to a pretty good player, the coaching staff passed because he's only about 5'9.

As for Cole Watts, for whatever reason Matt Wells largely ignored Orem High which was baffling to me because Jeremy Hill (Hunters dad) played here.

I know Watts visited USU, can't remember if it was for a camp or for an official, and was interested in coming, but Roy's right that he was never offered. Source level: my wife's nephew's wife is Cole's aunt.

I emailed Wells about Watts as the kid stood out at Orem and he’s huge.

If I remember watts was the kid listed at about 6’8”?

Nevada has come in and signed some kids from the state recently that we didn’t go after. They’ve recruited East pretty hard. They had a dline guy last year from East that was pretty good, was his last name rush?

Yes. Korey Rush. At that point in time, I'm not sure the old coaching staff had the greatest relationship with the Head Coach at East High Brandon Matich. That has obviously improved since we have signed several East kids in the last four or so years.
