Re: Baron G
He was Medically Disqualified by our medical staff here. That does not necessarily mean that he is unable to try to convince another school’s medical staff to allow him to play. That would mean that his missing this season was like a season-ending injury so he should be able to get a medical redshirt and have 2 years somewhere else after his grad transfer.

Re: Baron G
No. Baron was already never going to play here again, so his scholarship amongst the active 85 was already vacated. There are ways to keep injured players on scholarship and not have them count against the yearly allotment of 85.MWCFAN12 wrote: ↑November 26th, 2019, 9:54 pmaggies22 wrote: ↑November 26th, 2019, 12:07 pmThis could not have been explained any better.Aggs&Jazz12 wrote: ↑November 26th, 2019, 11:47 amHe was Medically Disqualified by our medical staff here. So technically speaking it's only two that have opened up but they might not be the last.

Re: Baron G
I can pretty much guarantee that others will be leaving, the staff knows what they need to do, they are not clueless like a lot of the monday morning QB's like to tout.aggies22 wrote: ↑November 27th, 2019, 7:36 amNo. Baron was already never going to play here again, so his scholarship amongst the active 85 was already vacated. It isn't always fair, but this is what needs to happen for the future of the program. These coaches need to bring in their guys and run their stuff. Competition every day will make this program better

Re: Baron G
Is their "stuff" (since we are calling it that!) and the poor performance defensively more a function of players/talent relative to scheme? Or is it just a bad scheme? I lean towards the former, and wonder if we have the talent to succeed in a different scheme at this point?

Re: Baron G
I'd say talent how many NFL players are on this D. Go back and look at GA's teams of the past and MW 1st and 2nd yr. how many current DB's and LB's would have beaten out players on those teams for starting jobs?

Re: Baron G
How is our talent when we returned 9 starters from a great defense?
We just keep doing the same thing over and over and over again. Have we tried press coverage? How many times have we blitzed? Why haven’t we moved Tipa around? I’m not a coach and don’t know how to fix it, but what we aren’t doing isn’t working and now we’re losing players and commits.

Re: Baron G
I think you answered your own question. We don't have the talent or size to succeed in the 4-3/4-2 scheme right now.newhouse9 wrote: ↑November 27th, 2019, 12:28 pmIs their "stuff" (since we are calling it that!) and the poor performance defensively more a function of players/talent relative to scheme? Re: Baron G
And the lack of talent to make a a 4-3 scheme workable is an indictment of Ena, plus the tackling short comings are well documented. We moved away from a successful 3-4 to a 4-3 where, after the CSU game , we were obviously very short of the performance mark from the year before. During the 2018 season, the defense played a bunch due to the offense scoring so quickly. Also appears to me some of our position coaches are sorely lacking teaching credentials.

This kind of post makes me wonder how much we are going to miss Dave Scholz in coming years.aggies22 wrote: ↑November 27th, 2019, 2:17 pmI think you answered your own question. Re: Baron G
While Dave was good he was into bodybuilding, not building FB players. Go look at our speed numbers when GA was here before. Also team squats, much better overall #'s under GA with much less in facilities. We want to be the most physically dominate team on the field every saturday. Nobody said that about MW teams.

I agree with you. However I think the strength and conditioning coach is one of the most undervalued coaching positions in football. I also think it is one of the hardest positions to fill with the right type of guy.JFW_AGGIES wrote: ↑November 27th, 2019, 9:54 pmWhile Dave was good he was into bodybuilding, not building FB players. Gary is not the one in the weight room with them everyday it is the guy he hires so only time will tell if he hired the right guy

Our lines didn’t get beat like they did this year under Dave Scholtz.

I do know that the players that I've spoken with on the subject say that they had never been worked harder during the summer than they were worked this last offseason.MWCFAN12 wrote: ↑November 27th, 2019, 10:14 pmI agree with you. Re: Baron G
At the time, I got the impression they felt it was a good thing but I agree, sometimes beating your body up too much in the offseason can lead the player's bodies to break down during the season.TheAKAggie wrote: ↑November 28th, 2019, 6:57 amAnd that’s not necessarily a good thing.aggies22 wrote:I do know that the players that I've spoken with on the subject say that they had never been worked harder during the summer than they were worked this last offseason.MWCFAN12 wrote: ↑November 27th, 2019, 10:14 pmI agree with you. Re: Baron G
For his last two seasons, I would like to see Baron and even Braxton Gunther end up at Dixie State or something similar, maybe Southern Utah. Let them both get the most out of their remaining eligibility and enjoy playing football.
