What do we need to add to our team talent wise?
Defense
1. A stud JC LB. We need a play maker in this spot our D took a significant dip when we lost Woody.
2. A hard hitting S. We can't have 2 S that are 5'10 and 185 IBS especially if they can't tackle.
3. A rush DE or we need to switch back to the 3-4
I would also like to see a CB but with Reed being put on scolie I believe the staff may feel ok about this spot.
Offense
1. A big physical WR. We need a playermaker with what we're losing at this spot.
2. JC RB with some speed about 6' 215 IBS
3. A pass catching TE. With out Repp and Marnier this yr who knows how bad our O would have neen this yr.
I dont know how many Scholarships we have to give this yr maybe 22 could fill us in. I've also heard the staff say that they have a couple of grad transfers, but I don't know what positions.

Team speed, strength, and depth all need to improve. Having said that this team seemed to lack grit. Not sure how you coach that but it has to improve or the talent doesn’t matter.

Re: What do we need to add to our team talent wise?
Our offensive line is VERY young. We have 18 offensive linemen 16 of them are sophomore, redshirt freshmen or true freshmen. The offensive line of 2018 that only gave up 10 sacks was often spoken about much like we discuss the inadequacies of this season's offensive line. I know it probably sounds cliche but these guys need to be given a chance to grow up.
With the change to the 4-3/4-2 our senior-laden defensive line, that was VERY successful last season, played the entire year out of position.

I do have this all outlined on the 247sports site at this link. This is also pinned at the top of THIS very forum in the 2020 Offers and Commits thread.JFW_AGGIES wrote: ↑December 1st, 2019, 8:43 amDefense

I would be shocked if we added a linebacker. The only way I see that happening is if the kid is a sign-and-send. That is a possibility.
As far as running backs go. I know that Sanford doesn't really like the bigger back. Jaylen Warren was an exception and a necessary addition. I would look for us to add RBs that are more like the Gerald Bright/Enoch Nawahine build and ability. Slashers that can break away but also catch the ball out of the backfield with relative ease.
I believe we now have 8 spots left. Here is what spots I see us adding and who.
1. RB - Our top target is 3* Elelyon Noa from Helix HS. We have STRONG competition from San Diego State and Boise State.
2. RB - No target yet. This will be a grad transfer. Might end up being a summer push forward.
3. WR - No top target yet. I don't see us really targeting a top high school guy, so this will probably be a JuCo guy.
4. TE - Our top target is 3* Austin Bolt from Borah HS. Our only competition is Boise State.
5. DE - Our top target is 3* Mosiah Nasili-Kite from Independence JuCo. He's a Washington bounce-back and holds a few P5 offers. I believe he is cousins with Ami Finau
6. NG - Our top target is 3* Ami Finau from Independence JuCo. He holds a few P5 offers. He played high school ball at Euless HS (same HS as Tipa), and I believe is cousins with current Aggie commit Poukesi Vakauta who also played at Euless.
7. CB - No target yet. I just can't see how we don't try and add a difference-maker.
8. S - Our top target is 3* Luke Marion from Tualatin HS. His Dad is former Cowboys All-Pro safety Brock Marion.
Any other questions? I'm happy to try and answer!

So based on this list doesn’t sound like we will land any of these. Do we have much of a shot at any?

Of the targets named. I think we'll get all of them but Elelyon Noa. He's going to be tough to sign.

I vote athletic speed, and capable tacklers who can be coached up. If they can get the Bwags and Nevin lawson, Vigils types that will turn the tide imho.JFW_AGGIES wrote:Defense

According to Al Lewis and Ryan Bohm he did say that. This is what I'm saying. I think we can sign Austin Bolt. I assume that's who you're referring to?

Oh man, this is good stuff. Picking up Ami Finau and Mosiah Nasili-Kite would be really big. I have to think we'll add some key pieces in the grad transfer market too.aggies22 wrote: ↑December 1st, 2019, 2:18 pm

The head scratching is CB. I can't believe we have backed up from Jamal Potts. His size and athleticism is exactly what we need at corner! He is coached by Henry Colombi's dad.

Re: What do we need to add to our team talent wise?
I posted this is an earlier about the Gary's comments on recruiting at the past coaches luncheon. This is also pre us losing commits Nick Session and Upton Stout.
He said we have 6 of the 25 spots remaining for the 2020 class. He then talked about what positions we're specifically recruiting and what we need.
He first listed RB as a position of need. He then said "we also need 2-3 DL, 1 WR, 1 Corner (though we may have a young man in the program who fills this void, and possibly an H Back Tight End."
My takeaways are that I wholeheartedly agree we need a difference maker at RB next year to add with Warren. I'm not sure Gary feels that cupboard is very full. They're not redshirting Nawahine and he mentioned RB as a need first.
The fact that he says we need 2-3 DL tells me the 4-2-5 isn't going anywhere unfortunately. I wish I could've told him I know of 2 good DL's (based off last year's play) currently on the roster (Logan Lee & Mo Uasike) and then seen what his reponse was.
I wonder who the corner he's talking about is? Both of our corners are seniors right now. That likely means they know of one starter but are unsure of the other. We have Cam Lampkin, Terin Adams, Dominic Tatum, Zahodri Jackson, & Michael Anwanyu.
Lastly, Gary didn't say this but I would expect us to add a couple of players to also fill position needs next summer that would be push forward scholarships."

What is the deal with Bryce Mortensen? He seems to have a similar build to Repp. I have hopes that he can become a solid tight end, especially at receiving.

At this point he just hasn't been consistent enough with his play to move up the depth chart.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑December 1st, 2019, 6:44 pmWhat is the deal with Bryce Mortensen? He seems to have a similar build to Repp. I have hopes that he can become a solid tight end, especially at receiving.

I don't think there's any way you'll see us bring in a LB with sticking in the 4-2-5. We already have a ton of roster spots being taken at LB for only two spots.JFW_AGGIES wrote: ↑December 1st, 2019, 8:43 amDefense

Is Magalei planning on returning. I know he has been injured but was not sure if it was going to restrict him from coming back. He was really solid his freshman year. I have high hopes for Thompson the guy was a baller in high school hopefully that can translate to the college level.aggies22 wrote: ↑December 1st, 2019, 7:31 pmDon't forget Vongphachanh and Shelton.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 1st, 2019, 6:59 pmI don't think there's any way you'll see us bring in a LB with sticking in the 4-2-5. These additions would only keep us at the level we are at currently. A whole lot more is needed to try and really compete for a conference championship.JFW_AGGIES wrote: ↑December 1st, 2019, 8:43 amDefense

I've also heard the staff say that they have a couple of grad transfers, but I don't know what positions.
https://247sports.com/college/utah-stat ... 132520857/

Re: What do we need to add to our team talent wise?
Fellas, let me clue you in on something pretty damn awesome.
If aggies22 is correct and we nab all of these kids except Noa, Coach A will have secured the best recruiting class in the history of this program by a wide margin. If we are able to add a quality CB, WR, and RB to this class it may very well end up being the highest ranked recruiting class we've ever had as well, despite the class size.

Elelyon means "The Most High" in Hebrew.
Just saying.
Just saying.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

That’s a bad sign. Typically you want RBs with a low center of gravity. Maybe Riley Burt translates to The Most High is some language.

2 big recruits on campus right now. A junior college WR (Trae Stropshire) and a high school safety (Luke Marion) that's a 3 star recruit. Expect both to commit to USU and both would be good pick ups for us.
