Cash Gilliam

Post by Elkaggie » December 3rd, 2019, 9:45 pm

What’s the story with him? I know he’s been banged up but he came in towards the end of New Mexico and used sporadically at times. Could he bulk up and help our LB corp depth? Seems like he’s got the tools and better speed than our current linebackers not named Kevin. Thoughts?

Cash is a really physical dude and his body paid the price this season. He was really frustrated with being injured because it kept setting him back.

Good to know. I’m rewatching the SDSU game and he’s a difference maker imo. Our defense looks completely different this game than our last few (or more) of our season. Guys flying to the ball, overall more speed on the field, D line getting penetration. They struggle in run game. Can’t hardly believe it’s the same team.

Hopefully the break before the bowl game will allow some guys to get somewhat healthy.

Not a football expert

I think I saw a lot of guys get into the backfield but only got an arm or hand on the guy. Just barely out of position or poor tackling. Many times it looked like a tfl or right the line of scrimmage but would break for an 8 yard run

I saw it in many games. Esp air force

Armed Forces Bowl is on Jan. 4, 2020. Let’s hope for that one over SpudBowl.

I’m not a FB expert either, so can this be attributed more to coaching than talent or more to talent than coaching?

Players make tackles, players win games.

GA has mentioned over and over we need these guys to get bigger, stronger, and more physical. Offseason will help with that

I might sound cliche but really it's a lethal combination of both.

Yes, terrible angles and lack of breakdown from everyone on this team not named Woodward. When you come in out of the secondary you need to keep your head up, break down, and don't worry about the big hit so much as wrapping up the runner. If he jukes get a handful of something and hold on.

I'll bet the Aggies gave up 20-25 third and longs this year by missing tackles on the QB, runner, or after a screen.

so you saw that, too? like if we actually did tackle those guys we'd have a good run defense?

i mean i get it -- if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle and we didn't make those tackles and yadda yadda yadda. just that it's one thing to get blown off the line and miss assignments and be generally lost on defense and it's another thing to get into the backfield and get to the ball carrier at or near the line of scrimmage and then not be able to bring him down.
