Re: Recruiting
He was committed to us solidly for 6 months. Then takes a trip to unlv at the end of recruiting season. Coaches then decide to move another direction.

Re: Recruiting
I was looking for him to pop up at some FCS school after not seeing or hearing anything about UNLV being a possibility. I never got the feeling that Yaro was going to stand out from the rest of the freshman we already have on the roster but I wish him the best. He seemed like he was genuinely excited to commit to the Aggies and he talked us up at every chance he got. I just think the coaches felt like it is a log jam right now at QB and we have more immediate team needs.

Watch for Conlon. He is an athlete. He was a atate champion in wrestling last year. Beat a kid in the finals who is attending Army now on a wrestling scholorship. Curious where we play him.

Re: Recruiting
I talked with a friend of mine who lives in the same neighborhood as Conlon. He said he's a great kid, really good athlete, has all the intangibles you'd want in a football player, but is a tweener -- a bit undersized for the D Line but maybe not enough lateral quickness to move to LB. My friend also mentioned what GordoAggie said about Conlon being a state champion wrestler, which I think says a lot about his strength, toughness and athleticism. Hopefully he can grow a little more on his mission and put on some weight. If so, he could end up being a steal.

Re: Recruiting
Typically, defensive players are necessarily just a slight bit quicker than offensive players,,,,,,because to be effective in running to the play, they need to be there or the play runs right on past them. For Nebraska to consider moving McGriff to L B tells me they liked his speed, size and quickness. Seems that McGriff just didn't warm to the idea of playing L B.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 20th, 2020, 9:37 pmI am excited about Mcgriff, but one thing that gives me pause is he left Nebraska because they switched him to a LB because they felt like he wasn’t going to play as a WR.slcagg wrote: ↑January 20th, 2020, 9:31 pmTop player in the list. Recruiting
Conlin seems very much like a Nick Heninger type player to me. Similar size and skill set. Nick was a walk on at the U but battled and worked and earned a scholarship there before transferring here. Both seem to have a motor and lots of desire. Just like Nick I think he’ll end up making an impact.

Re: Recruiting
On another note, I saw that Crew Wakley is home from his mission and listed in our 2020 signing class. He’s listed as an athlete (6-2, 190 out of HS), but was a very productive dual threat qb in high school and 2 time district MVP out of Sandy. He was a very hard nosed player in HS and I imagine Andersen may want him on defense but is it possible he fills Yaro’s void as the 5th qb? He had great high school numbers (3000+ passing and 1400+ rushing for both Jr and Sr seasons).

My nephew went to school with Wakley. He was described to me as a "winner" that is a tremendous athlete and a guy that just refuses to lose. He signed on fully expecting to get a shot at competing at quarterback. I don't think that means he is averse to playing safety, but he will expect at least a chance to win the quarterback job.

I just finished interviewing Emerson. That kid says ALL the right things. He seems like a stud. Won State wrestling as a junior and QUIT to hang out with his family before he leaves on his mission after graduation.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑February 7th, 2020, 12:43 pmConlin seems very much like a Nick Heninger type player to me. My brother in law coaches another high school in Utah and raved about Wakely. Said he was his favorite player in the state a few years ago.AGGIEinIOWA wrote:On another note, I saw that Crew Wakley is home from his mission and listed in our 2020 signing class. He’s not a D1 QB.

It appears we struck out on the grad transfer RB’s we were targeting so now we’ve offered this kid. Doesn’t seem like much of a drop off, if any, if we can land him.

I'd rather have a 2 year JUCO transfer than a 1 year Grad Transfer anyway. Esepcially if the player appears to be as good as White.

Re: Recruiting
@ratofallaggies can probably explain better but my guess is the intent was to showcase all the NFL RB's that were coached by the current staff. This would also explain the lack of Devante Mays and Darwin Thompson since those guys were during the Wells regime.
I would love a follow up graphic that showed all recent USU RB's drafted. Five RB's drafted in the past eight seasons (most of any team in the MWC over that period)....maybe most of any G5 team??

Exactly. I think this might play out better than the coaching staff ever dreamed it could.
