Stacy will be in the box calling the D. Frank will be on the field. The lack of strength is a issue I believe was a big problem up front as does G.A.
Perhaps with the young offensive linemen. Not the senior laden defensive line. Those guys were all played out of position. That's poor scheming.

You think Wildman, Caden, Devon, Baker and Nick were all playing out of position ?

Nick Heninger, Caden Andersen and Devon Anderson yes. I think Nick would be a better EDGE, Caden will be better as a NG than a 4 technique DT and Devon was more effective as a 3 technique DE. Jacoby Wildman yes and no. Occasionally, he was lined up at DT and he was really over matched there. He was a little small (265 or so) for a 4 technique DE as well but his great footwork and speed allowed him to make plays others his size couldn't. Dalton Baker no. He was kind of in no-mans land, a fairly small for a 4 technique DE (260 or so) but too slow for OLB. Dalton did the best he could with where he was played.

Hennger played DE at both USU and Utah, you may be right with Caden, Devon was one perhaps the only one that was strong enough to play inside, 265 is plenty big enough for a D.E. as is 260. I believe Baker was more in the 245 lbs range.

Gary is looking for a D tackle that can play immediately. So with the kids coming back he only sees 2 of the 3 that are good enough to start.

Even though Nick was our best defensive ends at times, I still think he's undersized and could have a much bigger impact as an EDGE. I love that we are going back to a 3-man front.

I have no problem with a 3 man front, but we sure as hell need to get a lot better at Line backer for that to work, perhaps, Justice can do better there, also the transfer from BSU is interesting. One thing that this staff missed on was Wildman he had the speed to play middle backer, he should have been there all along. I would hate to run the ball with woody, and Wildman in the middle.

We all have our ideas as to what is best, that is what makes it fun. I would have run a defense much different than what we were in last year with people in different spots than what we did, but that does not make it right

Jacoby at ILB is an interesting concept. The coaching staff found him fast enough to cover kicks and punts. I think it could have worked, it would have been worth a try at the very least.

Let me say this if Gary gets the help he needs at D. Tackle, and the linebacker kids work hard in the weight room, then the defense will be better than last season.

The line backers are interesting to me. While not experienced i feel we have some athletes. Duncan, hola, thompson, willingham are all very athletic. If they can get the system down they could do well. If magalei can get healthy. I think we might be surprised.

Mata Hola might need a year to get back at it but the other four could really push last seasons starters. Thompson, Willingham and Duncan are awesome multi-sport athletes that will really benefit from a year in an FBS strength and conditioning program.

22 have you heard anything from maybe results this fall about the young linebackers. Maybe any that stood out.

That’s basically what I do every morning. Sometime between 7:00 and 8:00, like clockwork. Looking forward to hearing who will be opening my bowels up even more than usual though.

I'm not sure we can fairly evaluate next year's LBs from what we saw on the field this year. I have hopes for Simon Thompson if he's put on some good muscle after a year in the program, we'll have a couple of newcomers, and I wonder if Daniel Langi (was a great HS LB), or Justus Te'i will move from DE back to LB.
Let's see how we look come spring.

Ok, so moving Langi to DE made about as much sense as moving Lavelle to DT!

i don't think jacoby at ILB would have worked. he has always been a down lineman, it would have been hard to make that change I think!! all the way back jacoby was never put in the position of linebacker. fwiw, i don't think he was fast enough
