Jaden Allen

Post by slcagg » May 15th, 2020, 12:00 pm

Looks to possibly be announcing tomorrow. I believe he received a offer from navy recently. Based on the other schools that I see that have offered I’d guess it is between us and Navy.

Unless he wants to go into the Navy, he is probably coming here! Seems like a decent get that could be a play maker at TE!

Am I missing something that is getting folks excited about this kid? He's got a decent frame, albeit a little shorter than most TEs that we've brought in over the last few years. He's not highly rated, and doesn't have an impressive offer list. Unless our internal scouting has identified this kid as a hidden gem, it doesn't make a ton of sense.

You will find that this is one of those times that the "rating" systems are not doing him justice. Jaden is VERY athletic and extremely underrated. I did some checking around and found out that the rating you currently see for Jaden on 247sports is from his sophomore film. You'll see his rating climb once his junior film is evaluated.

I think the last dude that we got from New Jersey was Ron Butler, although we snagged him from a JuCo in California.

Call me old fashioned, but I like two tight end sets, and two back sets, with a Larry Csonka / Franko Harris type fullback. And at least every once in a while, oh, I don't know, like when it's third and goal on the one foot line, put the damn quarterback under center.

Different sport, but didn't Jermaine Womack come from Jersey?

Jaden Allen

Post by AGGIEinIOWA » May 17th, 2020, 2:10 pm

What was the name of the poly kid who was real versatile and used at H-back/TE during Gary’s last go round here. I think he may have played some DE or LB as well. He wasn’t super tall, maybe around Allen’s height. Anyway, I liked how we used him and could see Jaden do well in that role.

That's what I would say. Unless, he's thinking of Kellen Bartlett.

Also if you look deeper his brother Julian Allen played at Southern Mississippi and several years in the NFL. Also a TE. There are several reports circulating that he is much more naturally athletic than his brother, just a little raw.

It's going to be really interesting to see who emerges as the starting TE(s) in the 2021 season once Terrell, Boman, Lee, & Manu all graduate after this year. Next year we'll have:

Bryce Mortenson, JR
Josh Sterzer, SO (unless he redshirts this year)
Cole Motes, SO (unless he redshirts this year)
Broc Lane, SO (unless he redshirts this year)
Jack Drews, SO
Jaden Allen, FR
Parker Buchanan, FR (May play TE or LB)

Bryce has been putting in the work. Hope it translates to the field.

Sterzer will redshirt. Lane will redshirt. Cole Motes is enrolling in January, so he's greyshirting. Parker Buchanan is most LIKELY going on his mission.
