Washington Money game
How much was Washington going to pay us? Will we still get that money? Are we going to be ok financially?

Look at the bright side, our travel experience this year will be... zero

Re: Washington Money game
The options are to reschedule that game or cancel the return trip next year along with not rescheduling.

Re: Washington Money game
Can Washington realistically claim a force majeure clause to be enforceable if they end up playing 9 conference games anyway? I have seen some armchair analysis from the Twitterati, and the general assumption right now is that to avoid a lengthy, costly court proceeding there P5 schools would offer the G5 schools a reduced sum.
Given how expensive it is to send our team up there, keep them in a hotel, feed them, and bring along the equipment...maybe a reduced payment with no actual travel would see us net nearly the same amount of money?

Re: Washington Money game
Classic law school answer, it depends. If the clause (and these clauses are almost always afterthoughts or lightly negotiated it at all) enumerates conditions but does not include a public health emergency or if the clause requires impossibility rather than undue hardship it becomes tougher to invoke.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑July 10th, 2020, 7:53 amCan Washington realistically claim a force majeure clause to be enforceable if they end up playing 9 conference games anyway? But if the clause says something like an event outside the control of the school makes conducting the game an undue hardship then it’s more likely. They can point to uneven testing procedures or additional contact being unsafe etc.
Miami tried to get out of a game at Arkansas State in 2017 when a major hurricane was projected to hit south Florida and they ended up settling for $400,000. I expect P5 schools will offer some cash and offer to reschedule games for a future open date

Re: Washington Money game
I consider it a rumor until it is officially announced. There have been a few reports like the one you posted that have said that they will follow and a few reports that have said it has been discussed but that nothing is decided. I definitely won't be surprised when (not if) the announcement comes out though.ViAggie wrote: ↑July 10th, 2020, 11:57 amRUMOR? https://arizonasports.com/story/2319301 ... ence-only/ProvoAggie wrote: ↑July 9th, 2020, 7:35 pmRumor is that the Pac-12 is next to cancel OOC games...so probably not.

Re: Washington Money game
As already noted, the PAC-12 has officially announced it will play conference games only, following the lead of the Big Ten.
That certainly hurts us. One has to wonder if the MWC will go that way, and indeed if ALL conferences take that step. Frankly, I don't see what difference it might make to eliminate non-conference games, particularly if they allow full stadiums. Also, I have to say I remain skeptical that ANY football will be played this fall.
One bright note, however. IF all conferences decide to play conference games only, and IF those games are actually played, who is left on BYU's schedule for them to actually have a game? Maybe they could schedule 11 games with Notre Dame, home and home and home and home...

Re: Washington Money game
Washington plays at Utah in conference. These power 5 schools won't have a leg to stand on when they cancel a game for "health reasons" and "geographical containment" when they're turning around and playing teams in the same state. BYU will have an even better contractual case against Utah due to proximity. Or look at it this way: Washington can travel to Utah to play but Washington State can't? And UofU can travel to WSU but WSU is worried about coming to USU? If I'm general counsel for the university, those are pretty strong arguments against force majeure or act of God.

This makes some sense. Probably yet another reason the season is unlikely to happen at all.Ahbye wrote: ↑July 11th, 2020, 11:49 amWashington plays at Utah in conference.
