Re: New QB transfer?
We have 5 QBs- 2 RS Jrs and 3 RS Fr. Peasley gets his year back from last year under a new rule. They're all overlapping.

22 is right about waiting 2 years regardless but when that time comes something’s gotta give. Position change or transfersBustaMcNutt wrote: ↑July 12th, 2020, 9:58 amWe have 5 QBs- 2 RS Jrs and 3 RS Fr. Peasley gets his year back from last year under a new rule. They're all overlapping.

Re: New QB transfer?
Even before we added Jason Shelley we had the deepest QB room we've ever had. This is a great problem to have.UStateTim wrote: ↑July 12th, 2020, 1:12 pm22 is right about waiting 2 years regardless but when that time comes something’s gotta give. I already love this kid for this game alone. I hope we don't lose any of our guys, they're Aggies after all, but happy to have Mr. Shelley on board.
What a come back to break the hearts of byu-p.

Thompkins to QB. If we are going purely based on speed he has to be the guy. Come on Sleepy Gary!!

I'm actually really smart, probably smarter than you are so if you disagree with what I have stated in this post, you are likely wrong (and dumb).

Re: New QB transfer?
Jason Shelley was never given an opportunity to compete for the job. This is why he transferred away from Utah.

Re: New QB transfer?
My prediction is either Peasley’s switches positions or he transfers.
It was clear in spring ball that Colombi was head and shoulders above the other Qb’s. Coach A made that very clear, which makes me believe that Gary and the staff see Peasley as more of an athlete than a QB, which is why they felt the need to bring in a reliable back up.

We have gone over this ad nauseam on this site. Size absolutely matters. Some would posit that it is the only indicator of success.

Re: New QB transfer?
What criteria makes someone immediately eligible to play versus having to sit out a year when transferring to another FBS school? It seems really arbitrary to me.

Re: New QB transfer?
It is 100% arbitrary. There is no rhyme or reason to how they make the decision.

Well the SL Trib article says he is the replacement for Jordan Love. They do mention Colombi but it seems they think he doesn't have a chance.

Re: New QB transfer?
He's an Aggie now and I'll cheer for him either way. He seemed very quick and athletic from the very few times I've seen him play, but it's not like the U is a QB power house, they've had some pretty mediocre QB play at times. Nothing against Mr Shelley, I hope he is a world beater, but that's a big leap by the trib.
In other news, talking with a huge ute fan coworker this morning about the transfer. He said he understood that Shelley was trying to get back to Texas, but things got complicated with Covid and that's why he ended up at USU. Anybody have any information on this? Would be interested to know his thought process and if he'll be here for the next two years or if he's got one eye on getting home.

Actually, he mentioned SMU and Rice as rumored destinations for Shelley, so I guess little Wells can stay in Lubbock for 1 more season.

Re: New QB transfer?
Yeah, I found that to be lazy reporting. It looks like someone just looked up some stats and made some huge assumptions.
What I find interesting is that Legas, Shelley, and possibly Peasley are capable of playing a position other than QB.
If one of these guys wins the starting job, are Colombi and Calvin willing to stay as backups? and is it making the best use of our players if one of them could also be the best option we have for the future at another position.
At this point I honestly don't see how Colombi will not be the starter but if that plays out and Shelley sees the writing on the wall, will he be willing to make the move to safety at USU? He would be facing the exact situation he just left at the U. Going to be interesting to see what happens. I tend to think Calvin and/or Peasley would be the first ones to transfer if they have their hopes set on getting more immediate playing time at QB.

Re: New QB transfer?
Everyone of our qbacks are 6’2” or taller, except Shelley. Even so, I am pulling for him to make big contributions to the team, in some position. We need another guy like Vaughns.

Re: New QB transfer?
I want to say that I think we’ve really made a mistake bringing in Shelley. Colombi has been through several OC’s, a coaching change, and could’ve transferred previously but stayed loyal. Other schools closer to his home wanted him. But he didn’t. He has never complained or done anything but be a great teammate.
How do we repay that loyalty? By going out and bringing in a veteran QB when Colombi is slated to start. There will be comments here that people just want the best QB to play..well there is a locker room element to it too. Colombi has the respect and trust of those guys and has been a loyal USU Aggie.
If Shelley is in fact better it’s only by a sliver at best. I don’t think this at all was worth the potential domino effect I think it’ll cause.

Re: New QB transfer?
Compete for your job every day. I believe competition breeds winners. I have never liked that idea of an heir-apparent. In fact, I would be upset at Andersen and crew if they weren't always trying to create competition and get the best people on the field.

Re: New QB transfer?
Colombi is the guy if football happens. He understands the new system, the players, the coaches.
Shelley will be good competition and could offer a change of pace or backup for injuries.
I think this speaks more in regards to how the players at the U felt about Andersen seeing as many have transferred from SLC to Logan the last 2 years.

You certainly have more inside information than I. With aggies22 also liking your post I guess I am really on the wrong side of things. I will say this, it isn't a cliche. I agree here. Unless Shelley is coming to play another position, this is a bad move. I really hope Colombi is the guy in the unlikely event we have football in 2020.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑July 14th, 2020, 6:08 amI want to say that I think we’ve really made a mistake bringing in Shelley. Re: New QB transfer?
I'm not going to say that you are wrong because in order to be a good/great program you have to have guys push each other daily to avoid complacency. It forces everyone to raise their game. So it's not that I find your comment a cliche, I'm just not sure how this move is going to fit with the guys in the locker room. At this point, it's all speculation. I'm just curious to see how this all plays out. You definitely have the right idea my Aggie brother, I'm just not thrilled with the timing of the signing.NVAggie wrote: ↑July 14th, 2020, 9:12 amYou certainly have more inside information than I.
