Re: OCT 24
The Chevron makes them with hand-dipped hard ice cream. The berries are local, but usually frozen before being mixed in. I'm not aware of anyone in town that uses fresh berries.brownjeans wrote: ↑September 21st, 2020, 9:09 pmProbably not a popular opinion, but I'm not really a huge fan of most shakes that people like. They're made with cheap soft-serve ice cream and blended with whatever.
A good shake/malt is made with good ice cream and has some milk in it. There aren't many places that make shakes this way anymore.
#theydon'tmake'emliketheyusedto
And since someone asked earlier, yes there are a couple of local berry growers. The big farm by the Logan road coming in to town went under about 20 years ago after a couple of seasons of really bad cane borer infestations. But now there are a couple of patches on the north end of town and down by Laketown.

FWIW, I'm my opinion the best shakes are at the Chevron station on the west side of Garden City as you head back up the road to Logan.

You're going to have to continue up Logan Canyon east of campus and drive to Bear Lake for the burgers and shakes. The locals in Logan will be able to fill you in on the best local places. Herm's is a great place for a hearty breakfast. Tandoori Oven (just west of campus/Maverik Stadium) is good if you are into Indian food. Maybe this needs its own thread?
Any news on a season possibly starting on the 24th?

I'm going to get excoriated for this take, but Logan is a pretty mediocre spot as far as food scenes go. Agreed Tandoori and Herm's are great, but besides that most of the local restaurants are nostalgic and the food is just OK (Fredrico's, Angie's, Firehouse fit this description).Yossarian wrote: ↑September 23rd, 2020, 10:56 amIf a kid asks you to cook, you cook. Way too many chains and not enough high quality local fare. I guess you can only put up what people will patronize so you get Olive Garden and Burger King. Please all of you still be my friends after saying that.

Fortunately the boy is not very discriminating and a pizza from firehouse is about all he needs.
Dad just needs 3 or 4 IPA's by the pool and dinner can wait.

They are talking about an 8 game season with championship 12 19. They would be better served with a 6 or 7 game season so they have a bit if wiggle room for outbreaks. They coulfd keep 1-2 weeks clear for make up games. The 8 game slat has no escape valve.

Re: OCT 24
The only option would be to leave open the possibility of cancelling the cross-division games. Have every week either be all intra-division games or all cross division games. That way so they can just cancel the cross division games if an outbreak hurts those, and make up the intra division games in place of cross division games.Jjoey52 wrote: ↑September 23rd, 2020, 7:47 pmThey are talking about an 8 game season with championship 12 19.
