Ideally, he'll bring a couple but most importantly he'll keep those we have committed.slcagg wrote: ↑December 10th, 2020, 10:28 amHere is there commit list. Be curious if maybe the Texas kids follow him.

Just went to the Arkansas State football Board and College AD is reporting that USU has offered Blake and will be announced tomorrow:

I would never challenge your wisdom so this is very much a question out of curiosity and not to start an argument: why is this such a good hire for those of us that wonder?

Re: Blake Anderson??
Yes, please. I'm all aboard. The only thing bad about this is his last name will confuse everyone.
Sad deal about his wife
"On August 20, 2019, Anderson announced that Wendy had passed away after a battle with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Defensive coordinator David Duggan coached the team during Anderson's leave."

Not to re-litigate this, but Utah State fans were wanting Wells gone and he gave us our best football years ever.

Re: Blake Anderson??
He signed a contract extension in May and the buyout is closer to $800K. Maybe look for us to play a game at Arkansas State (maybe home and home) in the next few years to offset that buyout some, but that's still up in the air.hickaggie wrote: ↑December 10th, 2020, 10:36 amhttps://projects.newsday.com/college-fo ... -anderson/

Re: Blake Anderson??
Anderson's excitement for the job seems to have worn off a bit at Arkansas State. If we get that guy this could be a bit of a dud. However, if we get a renewed reenergized Blake Anderson with some solid coordinators- this could be a home run hire.
He is still only 51 years old.

Re: Blake Anderson??
I'm still glad he's gone. Until 2018 it was nothing but a downward trend. Don't know about this guy but he's been pretty consistent until 2020. I don't like how many points and rushing yards his teams give up though. Hope he picks a damn good coordinator and maintains the missionary and poly recruiting so we can have a D-line.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑December 10th, 2020, 10:45 amNot to re-litigate this, but Utah State fans were wanting Wells gone and he gave us our best football years ever.

Re: Blake Anderson??
Players and coaches will run through walls for this man. He kills it in recruiting battles at ARK state vs SEC schools. As mentioned earlier in the thread, he's had some pretty high level offers in the past that he's turned down. But life has changed for him a bit over the past year with his wife's passing. It may just be that he want's a fresh start. Look at the WR's he's had go off the past two seasons.... I may know one of themMadmartigan wrote: ↑December 10th, 2020, 10:40 amI would never challenge your wisdom so this is very much a question out of curiosity and not to start an argument: why is this such a good hire for those of us that wonder?

Re: Blake Anderson??
That concerns me that they are happy about him going. Too big of a contrast to South Dakota fans being sad about Craig Smith leaving and Utah fans being sad about losing GA(as their DC). But then again, Colorado State fans were happy about Stew leaving and didn't miss him.hickaggie wrote: ↑December 10th, 2020, 10:43 amTheir fans aren't exactly crying

That's what I'm pointing out. Blake seems a bit bored of his job there. If we get that Blake this could be a dud. But if we get a guy with renewed energy and excitement - this could be fantastic.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑December 10th, 2020, 10:49 amThat concerns me that they are happy about him going. Re: Blake Anderson??
I don't know much about Blake Anderson per se and haven't thought about him at all to this point as his name seemed to just come onto our radar today, but the first thing that jumped out at me after seeing this thread was how undisciplined and poorly behaved his team was when we played them here in 2016. My 14 year-old son still talks about that dirty ASU team and he was 10 at the time.

This hire also would stay true to JH’s desire for offense.

Hiring from Arkansas State worked out for Boise. Also, I think the SunBelt is underrated as a conference.

Re: Blake Anderson??
This was perhaps our best game of 2016, one of our three wins that year. Not much to say about Arkansas State from the video. Arkansas State went on to finish the year 8-5. If you go back to 2014, they beat us in Jonesboro in OT, that was Blake's first year as Arkansas State's head coach.

Their fans might have a bit too high expectations after having Freeze-Malzahn-Harsin and all three had 10 win seasons I believe. He also didn't seem to do well in Bowl Games. However, I wouldn't be too disappointed going to Bowl games for 9 straight years! Their fans are a little spoiled.

Re: Blake Anderson??
I remember that well. It was the first game I went to in Logan with my son. He still remembers it as well and he was 8 at the time.tetonaggie wrote: ↑December 10th, 2020, 10:51 amI don't know much about Blake Anderson per se and haven't thought about him at all to this point as his name seemed to just come onto our radar today, but the first thing that jumped out at me after seeing this thread was how undisciplined and poorly behaved his team was when we played them here in 2016. 20 bucks a ticket for seatbacks at the 50 yard line on KSL... LOL....
One of the few bright spots for USU that year. ASU was a mess, I do remember that.
It's been a while since then though.
I think I'm good with this hire on aggregate.

There is probably more to his desire for a change of scenery than just the school. Seems like a straight shooter kind of guy.

I could see Blake killing it in an interview. He has always seemed like a guy that has it together and has a vision of what he wants to accomplish. He also seems like a really stand up guy that players would love to play for.
Aren't he and Wells good friends? I seem to remember them both talking about how long they had known each other and that they stay in touch.

Re: Blake Anderson??
I'm guessing there is more than the money involved. Lost his wife. Having a difficult year. Likes to ski. Maybe just looking to start over and get fired up in new surroundings? Its obviously a step up and big opportunity too for him if he can combine his recruiting connections with the USU formula.

Re: Blake Anderson??
If he's the hire, I'll get on board, I admittedly don't know much about him. It's unfortunate about his wife, tough stuff. it's tough to judge because of covid, but the year after his wife passed he's won half as many games as he normally has. I think the change could be good to reignite the fire, but it could be that he lost the fire. It's understandable if he has, I just hope we're not just an attempt to hold on to something that he doesn't really have the heart for anymore, like GA was doing (IMO).

Blake & Matt Wells are very good friends.
There's a lot of pressure at Tech to fire Yost. I have to wonder if there's a chance now Yost becomes the OC again.
