Re: Karter Shaw in Transfer Portal
Probably didn't think his brother deserved to be kicked off the team.
Before you all straw-man me, I never said Ty did or didn't deserve to be kicked off the team.

Re: Karter Shaw in Transfer Portal
I agree. When one brother gets bad treatment (deserved or undeserved) its pretty unlikely that the other brother won't side with family. I don't want to rehash the whole thing with Ty especially cause I don't have the full info, but Karter leaving makes sense.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2021, 9:28 amProbably didn't think his brother deserved to be kicked off the team.

Re: Karter Shaw in Transfer Portal
Let's just say that there is someone still on the team that behaved a helluva lot worse than Ty. It's probably hard to get over the obvious favoritism.

Re: Karter Shaw in Transfer Portal
This is one thing someone alluded to being worried about in a different thread about Heneli Avendano transferring to Oregon State. If one of our backup o-lineman can go to Oregon State, what does that mean for everyone else? Hopefully we don't see many more O-lineman exit. We really need to bring in some bodies here at this point.

Heneli was a starter when healthy in 2019

Re: Karter Shaw in Transfer Portal
My vote would probably be Ali'ifua.
I really liked Falepule Alo at Center for a few games last year.
Certainly looked raw and young, but I thought he had some solid potential.
So maybe we'd be looking at: Edwards, Koch, Alo, Ali'ifua, South?

Exactly what I was seeing/thinking when looking through the roster right now...is Hunter not quite ready to start?

Is Shaw salvageable or is this a dead deal.
Seems the staff is bringing in some great guys from the portal so far, so I have to think they've got some OL prospects out there.

We need size and experience - guys that are ready to play right now and guys that are smart that can read defenses and follow instructions. We have youth - we need game ready guys.

Don't be shocked to seen one more name from the offensive line show up in the portal.

I really like that BA has been able to bring in seemingly good guys as replacements in other positions of need. Hopefully that continues for oline.

Re: Karter Shaw in Transfer Portal
Random thought but if Karter transferred to a FCS ( big sky team) and played the 6 or 8 games they are playing starting February.
Could he then transfer to a FBS school for fall and still play ?

After Bloomfield scored an offer from Oregon State, I'm sure all our starters eyes lit up. He's shopping himself around. That's what the portal is allegedly for, transparency.

Wonder how that would work with the wife? "Hey, Babe, you're awesome and all, but John from work just left his wife and got a new one with more money, So I'm going to look around, put the vibe out and see what happens. But, hey if nothing happens, I might be back". If that's what it is, he shouldn't be back. Didnt coach Anderson essentially tell the team that anyone who entered the portal would be welcome back?aggies22 wrote: ↑January 12th, 2021, 10:30 amAfter Bloomfield scored an offer from Oregon State, I'm sure all our starters eyes lit up. I think that is probably the right thing for a new coach to do, but I am kind of surprised more guys did not test the waters knowing that they had a free pass to come back.

Re: Karter Shaw in Transfer Portal
Depends on the player. This isn't a marriage. If Alfred Edwards decided to enter the portal and then wants to come back, you take him.Aggie19 wrote: ↑January 12th, 2021, 10:43 amWonder how that would work with the wife? Your comparison reminds me of a story though. After a short-lived geology career, I started working as inside sales at a caster distributor (yes, tiny wheels, very exciting). After awhile, an outside sales position opened up. I expressed interest and was told I didn't have the experience in casters to take it yet, which was true. I started doing some more serious thinking on my next career and decided I needed to get into something where I would be working with computers daily so searched for, and found another job doing so. When I went in to give my boss the news he told me that when he found a wife, he didn't keep looking and that was how he felt about me finding another job...which was ridiculous

Re: Karter Shaw in Transfer Portal
I was mostly trying to be funny. For me, I have zero ill will towards a player that wants to leave, especially after a new coaching staff comes in. Honestly, a kid wants to leave at any time, I don't care and wish them the best (hopefully the do it at the right time). My perspective is this, I want you to want to be here and committed with everything you got. You're here and another kid isn't that wanted to play. If you're not 100%, not a problem, go find where you can be, I'm moving on to the next guy that wants to be here. It's no different than you and I in our careers, sometimes it doesn't work, go find where it can, it's best you everyone.GeoAg wrote: ↑January 12th, 2021, 10:56 amDepends on the player. Re: Karter Shaw in Transfer Portal
I think this is just the new reality of college football.
The players are getting more options/rights and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. The days when a MW or GA could say if you enter the portal you are done and we are revoking your scholarship.... don't work anymore. I think it's all about setting proper expectations.
If the expectation is set that at any moment, the University reserves the right to bring in a better player than you from the portal..... and in return, you have the right to see if you can get a better deal in the portal... then it's ok.
I think the tricky part is managing scholarships in all this. How do you know how many you have, or have to give. Complicated. If I were BA I would allow players to test the waters if they'd like to, but with a 30 or 45 day caveat so the University can plan for scholarships. If BA and his staff are doing a good job, we shouldn't lose many of our contributing players.
