Local Offers

Post by Donman » January 29th, 2021, 3:21 pm

I am seeing a ton of local offers being given out by the new coaching staff.

Great to see them working in the state.

The ultimate goal should always be to find the best athletes whether in the state or out of state.

Go to the home page of the USUFANS and scroll down through the twitter feed and you can see all the players that have been offered. They have for sure offered a lot. I don't have any information on any of them or if they are really good candidates, but one thing is for certain the staff is getting out to the local schools and making offers.

I also check out 247 to check them out. Guys who contribute to 247 also are pretty up to date on their twitter pages in aggieup and Brian Phillips.

I'm pleased to see the new staff's 3 pillars of success are
1) Recruit
2) Recruit
3) Don't stop recruiting

This staff is recruiting Utah harder and being more pro active with it than any staff we’ve literally ever seen at USU.

That is quite possible. While it's encouraging, I'll be more impressed if/when we start landing some of these guys.

Can anyone confirm whether any of these local offers are NEW OFFERS or is the current staff just selectively re-issuing the offers made by the prior staff? IN other words, is there ACTIVE recruiting/offering going on, or is it mostly seeing what there is to salvage from the previous coaching staff's relationships and recruiting efforts? Thanks in advance...

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess these are all new, being that the previous staff's technique was to wait next to the phone and hope it rings.

I also love to see that most of them thank big Al and DJ. We new that the other coaches would be good recruiters, good to see the homegrown coaches out recruiting.

He's been coming on unofficial visits since his freshman year. I'll be shocked if he ends up somewhere else other than Utah State.

Do you know what position they want him for? At 6'4, 200 as a senior in HS seems like he could play in several different places depending on how filled out he is.

It's good if we can land them. It's bad if we waste too much time and don't get quality guys. It's bad if we take lower rated in-state guys when we could have signed higher rated out-of-state recruits.

Right now I'm VERY in favor of the approach the new staff is taking.

How does coach Anderson even know how to find the local high schools? He isn’t from here. And has he been able to figure out that a player wouldn’t be able to play for two years if they are going on a two year mission? I have heard the math is hard for people who weren’t born and raised in Utah. Just checking. ;)

Looks like we are offering locals and polys too. Maybe the decision not to hire Frank wasn't completely about him wanting to recruit locals and polys. Of course, Anderson is also getting transfer and commits from Texas, Florida, and Alabama. I don't think you can fill your whole team with those states, but you can't fill it with only locals either. Get the best players who are willing to come here. You end up with more locals because they are more willing to come here.

I don't know if I'm more excited about how this staff is getting out and getting after it, or upset at how the last staff did very close to jack squat.

Were they incompetent, lazy, or both?

So much for how complex and nuanced Utah recruiting is. What a load of baloney.

I like most here are pleased that local kids get offers from our staff, however be aware that if most of those kids get a offer from the U or ybu, we will lose most of them, on that list, but it is good to try.

Sometimes these guys really value their first offer and stick with the school that first believed in them. So, hey, worth a shot.
