Re: Spring Ball
Legas looking pretty good today. Don't see Andy Koch at all. Did I miss something there?

The speed, the energy, I was impressed. I expect this team to compete at a high level this year. Attending this event made today a wonderful U-State sports day! Future is bright! A lot to smile about!

Re: Spring Ball
I’d also have to say that the running backs looked great today. There were quite a few different long runs by different players. Our tackling also looks a ton better compared to last year. Players are actually wrapping up instead of being weak and diving.

Nice to hear about Legas. Maybe he will give Bonner a run?

Re: Spring Ball
The WR core looked lights out compared to last years squad. Peasley was throwing the ball well and excited to see the line blocking decently. Actually had time most plays to make a throw plus opening holes for the running game. The tempo offense was very exciting to watch.
The DBs played tight and were able to stay with their assignments most times. The defense played physical and fast it was a nice change from last year

Re: Spring Ball
Gonna have to disagree with your Peasley take. He looked pretty bad to me. Multiple INTs, multiple sacks, multiple errant throws, etc. Night and day difference between him and #5.Aggiefan2020 wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 9:10 pmThe WR core looked lights out compared to last years squad. Enjoyed the day, hard to distinguish a lot, but overall very pleased. Loved the energy kept hearing the coaches yell dont walk off the field you jog. Thought recievers caught well and the running backs were physical. Vaughns is going to be a good player.

Re: Spring Ball
I agree. Peasley was rough. Really wanted to see Legas get a shot against the first D to see if he looked better just because he was going against the 2s ( in reality the threes with all the injuries).BLUERUFiO wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 9:23 pmGonna have to disagree with your Peasley take. Also, Thompkins is going to have an all conference type of year in this offense. He looked gooooood today.

Agreed on both counts. Peasley was pretty rough, but this was the first time I've seen him this spring so who knows, maybe it was just a bad day for him.GeoAg wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 10:28 pmI agree. Peasley was rough. Thompkins was unstoppable. I don't think our secondary is incredible or anything, but DT looked really, really good. I'm excited to see him in a competent offensive system.

Re: Spring Ball
Gosh, guys, I am going to bed still totally excited about what I saw today. Again, the overall impression of speed and excitement encompassing everything was what stood out most. I am not 22 or like many of you but here is my best take on the offense.
QB’s
• Peasley had some nice flashes but 3 INT’s has to get better. Did move through the progressions a few times and hooked up with the Wr. I also like his legs.
• Legas could overtake Peasley but doesn’t quite have the finesse just yet but is right there.
• Josh Calvin, physically just looks really good out there and just seems to he may have a high ceiling but we were not allowed to see him use his are this time around.
Offensive Line
I’m no line expert but they looked a little small however moved well. Noted some big uglies on crutches that could change my opinion on size.
RB’s
The short of it is there was a lot of competition in this area though I did not see a 3rd down type back.
• Devonta’e Henery -Cole looked great!
• Noa looked great!
• Bryan Lumsden looked nice!
• Makakona did well
• Cooper Jones did good
• Joyner stood without pads but he really looks to be a physical specimen, can’t wait to see him at work.
WR’s
WR’s did pretty well today, pretty quick much more lateral (elusive) speed.
• Thompkins really stood out
• Hadnot was nice
• I must have come too late to catch Nathan or been distracted when he was out there cause I didn’t see him out there.
• Missed McGriff
Defense.
It’s too late at night for me to go through it all but 11 caught my eye. I also thought the Defensive backfield is much improved such is why they got 3 INT’s. Peasly did drop some dimes but the defense defended perfectly to knock the dimes down. It was really neat to see. Watching the roster, a lot of the guys that stood out were new and from Texas or Florida. For sure there are some good super seniors out there but you can tell the coach has had an immediate recruiting impact and totally changed the demeanor of the team! Look to go bowling.
I am hoping others who were there correct my thoughts or add to them.

Re: Spring Ball
I'm in the crowd that wasn't impressed with Peasley AT ALL. He botched two easy screen passes in a row and then completely airmailed another sideline pass on the same series, iirc. QB mobility and elusiveness is never fully apparent in spring or fall camps, and we know he has that going for him. But color me unimpressed (yet again) with his arm and accuracy.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure JNathan was sitting out with a sore hamstring. Pretty sure we know what we've got there, though. Biggest question is will we have someone to get him the ball?
I'll add that I really liked what I saw out of Gentry yesterday... Maybe as much as any of the other backs, which I thought looked good as a group as well.
I didn't pay as much attention to the lines as I probably should have, but #11 (Byron Vaughns) was in the backfield all afternoon. I liked what I saw there.
Overall the energy of the day was great. As others mentioned it was a very welcome distraction on an otherwise disappointing day.

Re: Spring Ball
Peasley, struggled. Legas was nails and will be a great 2nd string to Bonner.
Who I was the most impressed with yesterday was Van Leuven. That kid was lined up in the slot and catching everything. Our WR group is looking so much better. McGriff looked better, but still dropped some passes that hit him in the hands. He caught a beautiful TD pass I thought. Our offense looked better than last years already. We had a running game, lateral throws got yards, we threw downfield too. We will be better!!
Number 11, kid from TX was solid and looked like Tipa out there, but a bit more physical. Mayberry not out there, but on the sidelines...lots of our transfers didn't dress for the scrimmage.
FWIW: We had/have a 5'6" running back out there. Not impressed, at all. He took a couple of snaps. I can't image where he'll fit in in the future. Someone might enlighten me a bit as far as how he ended up here.

Re: Spring Ball
Are you talking about Devante Henry-Cole or Calvin Tyler? Calvin Tyler is the transfer from Oregon State. As a high school senior he led the entire state of Texas in rushing. He ended up here because Chuckie recruited him here.IdaAg93 wrote: ↑March 28th, 2021, 3:48 pmPeasley, struggled. Legas was nails and will be a great 2nd string to Bonner.

Our corners must be struggling a bit because we've made a few very recent offers out to transfer Cornerbacks for the 2021 season.

Re: Spring Ball
What transfer offers beside McGary and Demarcus Griffin-Taylor? Did I miss a couple?Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 8:34 amOur corners must be struggling a bit because we've made a few very recent offers out to transfer Cornerbacks for the 2021 season.

Also, they aren't struggling on the field. They are struggling staying healthy. The coaching staff is looking for quality depth.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 8:34 amOur corners must be struggling a bit because we've made a few very recent offers out to transfer Cornerbacks for the 2021 season.

Re: Spring Ball
There's another JUCO corner I saw. Also, one of the coaches has basically been following a bunch of transfer corners on Twitter. Maybe official offers weren't made there, but it's obvious that position is being recruited fairly hard right now.aggies22 wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 9:32 amWhat transfer offers beside McGary and Demarcus Griffin-Taylor? Re: Spring Ball
I'm not surprised. Saturday wasn't an impressive performance re: pass coverage at the CB position, for me.

I think you are talking about Ro Torrence. But he's a 2022 guy.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 9:52 amThere's another JUCO corner I saw. Re: Spring Ball
Nothing against Bonner, but I would love to see Legas in there. Anderson said he played 2 q backs last year. Maybe he will do the same in Logan.

Re: Spring Ball
Bonner isn't a dynamic player from what I've seen on film. Probably why he shared the QB position last season. That said, he doesn't need to be dynamic for us to win games. He can just play smart, distribute the ball, get the team into the best play vs the defense, and don't turn over the ball.
