It’s much more fun than Stews Spectrum right now. I think we struck gold with our new football coaching staff. I particularly like Banda.
Oh, and I hope Hartwell chooses a b ball coach that can do for basketball what it looks like Anderson is doing for football.

Someone who's a proven coach at a G5 school? Checkmcaggie1 wrote: ↑March 30th, 2021, 3:13 pmIt’s much more fun than Stews Spectrum right now. I think we struck gold with our new football coaching staff. I particularly like Banda.

It's a cycle. Eventually this forum will be tough and basketball will be good.
As for football, I need to see about six games before in get on the these-guys-are--great wagon.

Re: I like this forum
If we add a "starting" QB to the roster between now and this fall, I'll have a meltdown.

Re: I like this forum
I agree the football board is great, but a couple things:
(a) people are understandably miffed about Smith leaving so things are rough right now, but we are coming off three straight tourney bids and likely returning the core of our team in basketball. Basketball has been a lot more fun than football for the last two years, and is in a much better spot right now than our football program (knock on wood, as I’m sure the portal could still take its toll);
(b) I am encouraged by the new staff in football, but realize we are in our honeymoon phase. They are definitely talking the talk, but let’s see the team play a few games first. I am keeping expectations reasonable and expecting somewhere between 2 to 5 wins, with 6 being the ceiling. It seems we are getting more early commits, which is good, but I’m not seeing even a marginal increase in the star ratings of the guys we are getting commitments from versus what we were signing when Gary was here. The recruiting of guys like Banda was a big selling point, and although you can tell the staff is trying a lot harder in recruiting than the old staff, the results in terms quality of recruit on paper hasn’t changed at all yet (and I know, star ratings aren’t everything, but they are really all fans have to go on until the guys get on the field).
TL;DR; things are overall pretty dang good with our basketball program, and there are encouraging signs with the football program, but let’s pump the brakes so we don’t create unrealistic expectations for a first year coach inheriting a one-win team.
