Yes, in 2019. He will be a redshirt freshman in 2021 thanks to the eligibility freeze.

Re: Early Commits
I don't think our high school recruiting will change too much. For the most part we are who we are in the pecking order of collegiate football recruiting. The last coaching staff took a TON of risks on guys. I don't think you'll see this staff do this. I think you'll see us consistently pull mid-3* guys and really stay away from the low 3* and high 2* guys that the last staff would take chances on.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑May 14th, 2021, 9:33 pmI should clarify — the guys pulled from the portal have all been pretty impressive.
The quality of high school guys we’ve recruited have all been pretty much the same tier of player we’ve always recruited.

Re: Early Commits
It seems like most everyone committed in the current class of high school guys falls into the category of “low” three star, no? And many don’t report other D1 offers. This is not to say they aren’t or won’t be good players for us, but they seem at about the same level on paper as the guys Gary was bringing in (if anything, the average player rating seems to be down slightly).aggies22 wrote: ↑May 15th, 2021, 7:47 amI don't think our high school recruiting will change too much. I do not believe individual recruiting rankings are the end all be all. I am only making the point that on paper, HS recruiting hasn’t changed much.
The current staff is killing it in the portal though, I will admit that!

I'm guessing it's the offensive lineman from Iowa Western, Calvin Knapp. I don't have anything to go on though other than the fact that he followed me on Twitter after I retweeted him. Lol

I think Cornelius's family & friends just talked him out of a USU commitment.

Re: Early Commits
That's exactly what I thought when I saw the tweet. It could pay off with a P5 offer, if that's what he's looking for. I'll tell you what, this coaching staff likely won't hold a spot for him and openings here are being spoken for quick!Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑July 2nd, 2021, 1:20 pmI think Cornelius's family & friends just talked him out of a USU commitment.

Re: Early Commits
That’s unfortunate if he’s waiting for a P5 offer, but like it say if he waits too long we may be out of offers. At the current rate of commits I’d say he has any a week to decideaggies22 wrote: ↑July 2nd, 2021, 2:34 pmThat's exactly what I thought when I saw the tweet. Just curious on people’s opinions: would he be one of our top recruits if he committed? I haven’t really watched any tape from any of our recruits, and at this point I know we have lots of dudes committed but unsure who the best commits are in the ‘22 class so far. Who would you guys say is our best commit so far (with the limited tape and COVID stuff that’s limited evaluations and such).

Kao Hansen is an athletic freak of nature.
Bishop Davenport is VERY underrated.

Our best recruits (in a year where we have great recruits), in my opinion:browntown wrote: ↑July 2nd, 2021, 4:53 pmThat’s unfortunate if he’s waiting for a P5 offer, but like it say if he waits too long we may be out of offers. At the current rate of commits I’d say he has any a week to decide

1. Bishop Davenport
2. Weylin Lapuaho
3. Kao Hansen
4. James Aloisio
5. Robert Briggs
Here's the crazy thing about that list: most of those guys would be our best recruit in nearly any class we've had. Weylin and Kao are especially easy to pinpoint as "game-changing" because these guys have typically been guaranteed to pick Utah and BYU.
Another crazy thing? Our 6-10 guys are all fantastic as well. Most of them would be a Top 2-3 recruit in most years for us. Specifically thinking of Fonoti-Maikui, Alofipo, and Moore.
Honestly, this is our best class ever in my opinion, and we have it sewn up in July. Unbelievable. The benefits of getting a class this good closed before the season even starts are numerous, including:
- More time to focus on the season and less on recruiting/scouting.
- Head start on evaluating and building relationships 2023 guys.
- Better understanding of transfer/JUCO needs for next season
- Improved reputation both in-state and outside for USU offer prestige
- Ability to hyperfocus on one or two more targets and strengthen relationships with committed players
- Giving Tyler Knowles more time to plan insanely good graphics for Signing Day

Re: Early Commits
Great to hear! I got the feeling Bishop was a very big pick up and same with Weylin today. The other ones all seemed to come so fast and in a flurry that I lost track. I hope this class becomes one of (if not the best) class once they get on the field and start producing for us.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑July 2nd, 2021, 6:34 pmOur best recruits (in a year where we have great recruits), in my opinion:browntown wrote: ↑July 2nd, 2021, 4:53 pmThat’s unfortunate if he’s waiting for a P5 offer, but like it say if he waits too long we may be out of offers. I was also thinking back to what Coach A said in his initial press conference about recruiting Kansas JCs, I assume most JC recruiting is in December/January time, and mostly to fill in any immediate needs?
I thought about that because I’m very impressed with how many high school kids we have committed that could be in the program for the next 4 plus years, and I think that’s a very good foundation for long term success that is being laid by the coaching staff.

Honestly, time to move on from this kid. If he was gonna commit here, it would have happened by now. It sure seems like he’s been on the cusp of commiting forever. Wright seems like the kind of recruit that we will get in a year or two on transfer after he realizes he'll get a batter shot at USU.
